Speaker possibly damaged - help needed

Just curious on how I can test my speakers for damage, I tried low level and louder level tests on drums and music, seemed ok although 1 specific track the snare did seem a little crackly at first bli think.

* I had the default 2 or 3rd order crossover set at 70hz - hopefully helped.

* my Oppo 105 I use has has been playing up and the preamp volume control wasnt working up or down (due to an ongoing issue).

I reset the preamp level settings and then put it back to where it was but instead the preamp levels were at default FULL level +4 dbu !!! while my amp was already turning sort loud. wow!

this caused some VERY loud music for 2 seconds max then I acted like a ninja the next and muted.

* speakers are b&W 705 s2, kind of expensive so I want to be sure.

You could run sweeps of test tones. If you don't hear anything obvious and consistently wrong now, tho, probably not a worry. You must use the Oppo as pre-amp?

yeah I ran some audio sweeps to test linearity but I dont fully trust it but it's ok I use the studio six digital software and the audio interface 2 but as good as it it it doesn't have super high resolution abilities to dig deep into diagnosis.

speakers seem ok but I have heard little tiny things here and there when a certain snare crack on certain tracks but never again after speakers had a rest.

all stemmed from my Oppo 105d which has been playing up for some time. seems when I unplug everything including power for 2 and do a hard reset (not full reset) it's ok.

Do REW frequency response measurement of your speakers. You will definitely see on the FR graph if it is damaged.

I have old surrounds that got damaged in a loud movie they have static occasionally. Never opened them up too see what is wrong I don’t know how to fix them. You should hear it if they’re damaged.

On my garage speakers, I heard some distortion, but it ended up being on one of the instruments on the recording itself, which ends up being the devil with today's more revealing speakers. Especially vs older recordings, those not done professionally, or bands using clapped out studio instruments and a lot of other factors. Still, it was an alarming disruption, albeit a subtle one, which seemed magnitudes higher in the middle of an immersive session, regardless.

We often hear people exclaim how a new speaker has allowed them to hear things in songs they never heard before. Not all of which, was intentional, as it turns out.
