thanks... now you'll get JohnD to come over here and fight for the last drop again! :p

Seriously, it's just a matter of time. All I want is to see every movie in blu-ray on shelves at my rental store.

BTW, what do you think of those prices?

- VideoSuperChoix rental store: 4.50$ (upped from 3.95 last week) for a 1-day rental, dvd/HDM
- Videotron rental store: 5.25$ for a 1-day dvd rental, 7.00$ for HDM
- Video-on-demand (supposedly the next winner): same as videotron (duhh, videotron is my cable company as well)

Is it just me or those prices are outta there!? 4.50 is fine with me but not 7.00$ costs me 12.25 to go to the theater anyways. my anus is really sore as I feel I'm getting raped with those prices.

(sorry for hi-jacking your fake-news-thread :p)

$7 is insane for a rental.

They aren't going to rent very many at that price. My local blockbuster charges the same price for BD as DVD. (about $4.50/per) The vast majority of my BD rentals are from Netflix and they cost practically nothing. Netflix bills me $18.30/mo after tax, and I average about 12-15 BD movies.

If I round to an average of 13/mo.... that's $1.41 per BD....LOL

Lucky you. Netflix is not available in Canada and there is no alternatives as well.

Interestingly enough, Paramount has made their official statement....and they made it exclusively to The Hollywood Reporter and Thomas K. Arnold.

Seems strange that they would make it to a publication that JohnD feels is "not worthy of wiping his cat's *** with"

All Hollywood studios now lined up behind Blu-Ray

By Thomas K. Arnold

LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - All six major Hollywood studios are now in the Blu-ray DVD camp, a day after Toshiba pulled the plug on HD DVD and Blu-ray became effectively the only next-generation game in town.

Paramount Home Entertainment quietly came onboard via a statement issued Wednesday to The Hollywood Reporter: "We are pleased that the industry is moving to a single high-definition format, as we believe it is in the best interest of the consumer," the statement read. "As we look to (begin) releasing our titles on Blu-ray, we will monitor consumer adoption and determine our release plans accordingly."

No further details were given.

Sure there are, try www.zip.ca - they have a good selection of Blu-ray titles and they work the same as Netflix.

:)
Did you try it? How is it? Their plans don't seem very good... In fact I've heard horrideous things about them :S

Delighted that studio companies are already making the shift, OFFICIALY! lol Those are the magic words:

" Neither studio has announced specific titles earmarked for early Blu-ray release, though both are expected to start with new theatricals coming the same day as the standard DVD, beginning in late spring or early summer. "

Actually, I have no idea who's reliable or not. I don't keep track of news broadcasters. As most of the people, I just think that if it's on an officialish site, then it must be good.

Anytime you see Thomas K. Arnold's name, it's reliable.

I use zip.ca, its pretty good actually. Depends what plan you want to get though. I get 11 dvds a month. I havent started renting the blu rays yet. I pay around 27$/mth. It comes out to about 2.45 per dvd/bd. Its a pretty sweet deal. Once you are with them for awhile, once you put a check box saying you shipped the dvd back, they send you something immediately. The reason I joined is that they have some rare movies and music dvd concerts that you dont usually find in rental store. Unfortunately, for new movies, you dont always receive them as they come out, you make a list of 20 dvds and they send you what is available. But it goes through your priority that you set. This is the only downside. Other than that I love it.

If you just gave them a couple of days you would've never had to add this part. ;)

Of course it takes Paramount longer to admit they completely effed up with their decision. Their poor decision cost them significant sales, but they now have the opportunity to make some of them back up and the news puts 100% studio support where it belongs.

What's that motto again? Oh yeah! The Future Is Blu! :D

I don't think they suffered much. They had DVD all that time and it`s not like a major studio company will turn poor overnight.

I'm 22 and I'm still angry at those who do simple stuff for a living and earn millions. eg. actors and pro sports players. Maurice Richard (The Rocket) was making 11K a year as a hockey player back in the days and had to work hard during the off-season. Now they whine because of those DAMN 3 million $ contracts. Damn you salary cap

The future is blu indeed...
