A ported sub is better for HT set up and a sealed sub is tighter and thus better for music. That is my take on it though......"I'm an expert witness, because I say I am. Don Henly"
That is such a far fetched POV. There is a subwoofer myths link at the top of this forum, which debunks your post.

Ported subwoofers are more efficient, and all things equal, will produce more sound, at lower frequencies. Sealed subwoofers are smaller, and require more power. They have a shallower roll off compared to port subwoofers but this roll of starts higher up then your average ported subwoofer. They also have a more gradual slope on the roll off, which is often why they are perceived as being "tighter". This roll off can be mimicked on good ported subwoofers however, and still take advantage of the ported subwoofers efficiency.

Unless you have space constraints, a port subwoofer will give you more SPLs and lower extension compared to sealed subwoofers (all else equal).

im sure you seen this http://www.tweakcityaudio.com/forum/showthread.php?t=11 and is subjective, but imo the list is pretty good
Thats a very informative list, But I cant beleive the Paradigm servo 15 isnt even on the list and that sub will peel your skin back, its one thats in my consider list but I might have to sell my kid and I cant sell my x because I only leased her, thank goodness :p but seriously that av123 has definitely got my attention too for the money and it appears the quality of sound and construction is well worth it .It would fit into my budget now :D but not duals : (

Thats interesting to know, thankyou . Also I think Jamie was just trying to give me a basic idea of differences without getting to technical. As far as what you hear , I do appreciate your detailed explanation though , thanks again its very helpful in my many decisions i have to make.

He wasn't trying to give you a basic idea, he was trying to mislead you. A subwoofer that is capable of playing Music content well, will be able to play HT content well (as long as it has the required extension to cover the information in the source).

Very interesting, I even followed the second link and stumbled on to the dsp10 and didnt seem to do so bad considering the price. I think when I get a new sub that DPS will be a keeper and end up in a bedroom or computer computer room. That was a good review as I pretty much experienced everything described in the review with my sub they said. That was a good find and definitely made my mind up for me as far as process of elimination thats for sure.

remember they dont have access to "all" subs, and for 400 more you get 2 mfw15s. However 1 scored very well, up there with the jl;) and "Listening results: The MFW-15 amazed the panel by largely matching the PB13 Ultra in all musical areas with the exception of pipe organ. Bass is deep, tight and powerful, with no overhang at all. The cabinet work done on this subwoofer is absolultely stellar, especially in its price range. By stellar, we mean just how inert it is. The cabinet barely vibrates during the most powerful passages, and this helps the MFW-15 to get its excellent musical rating. It is, as an earlier graph shows, very linear in its response curve, all the way to 100 Hz. It is in the area of slam an linearity that allows this subwoofer to match more high priced units. The Steely Dan disc on this subwoofer is a bass head's dream, with a lot of the panel requesting to hear it again after the test. Stanley Clarke was also as crystal clear on the MFW-15 as with any subwoofer we have had."

So how do you run two subs with only one output on your receiver ? Do you have to run some sort of a splitter.
