Paradigm 100's to replace Aperion 633t

Just got a good deal on a pair of v.4 Studio 100's. My plan was to replace my Aperion 633 mains with these and then one by one change everything over to Paradigm. Would it be ok to have them mix matched with the Aperion 634 center? I'm not as concerned about the surrounds. I have another system in my living room but it doesn't have as much power as my Pioneer Elite that is iin the theater. I know the 100's like BIG power. Should I leave the theater all Aperion for now or go ahead and put in the Paradigm's? Let me add that I enjoy 2 channel direct alot of times if I just want to go into the theater and listen to some music. Also for all the 100 owners, small or large?

I think you would gain more by integrating the Studio 100 now. Then leaving the theater all Aperion for now, even with the Aperion center. JMO

And if your going to integrate the 100's with a subwoofer then (small).

I also hope we get a full review of your thoughts, and the differences between the 663's and the 100's. :D

Currently using Aperion S12 sub. I'll just experiment with xover point . I just don't want to "rob" the 100's of there mid/low capabilities. they sounded stunning when I demoed them in direct 2 channel.

Hopefully ParadignDawg will chime in, and give his opinion.

Congrats, I'm sure you will really enjoy the 100's.... they are beautiful sounding speakers.

When crossing over the mains to the sub, you should really let the Room decide which freq to crossover, and I would be sure not to cross over lower then 60hz, which will give the 100's a bit of room to still be effiecient down low. Too low and they start to lose control, so keep it tight. Do not feel that if you are crossing over at a higher Freq, that you are robbing the 100's.

By saying "let the room decide" I mean that you should be testing the freq response with a spl meter with a sweep of test tones and graphing the output, if you have a big dip in output where you are blending the mains to the sub, that may not be the best place to cross over. You want the graph to be as flat as possible where your crossing over, if its not flat your room may be presenting a problem to use that setting. Experiment with a number of different settings to make sure you choose the best for your room....

Again as Mazer stated, we would hope to hear a review of the comparison between the Aperion and the Paradigm if you could...

Go here to download a test tone CD and read that page... As you can see in the graph on that page, they have a very nasty looking graph... What you are looking for is a nice smooth response much like this...

Good call, I was thinking 60hz would be a good setting for these beasts. I just hope front soundstage will have a nice marriage considering the Aperion 634 center. Its a beast too, and sounds great, but we'll see.

You want to set them on small and crossover between 60 and 80hz. This will suffice until you can get more detailed like Warp pointed out. I use a Pure Direct mode when listening to Jazz and let the 100's sing all alone w/o the sub.

They do like power but I would put them in the room you use the most and start enjoying them. You can always add an amp later down the road.

A mismatch between the center, mains and surrounds may be noticed if you listen to a lot of multi ch. music but should be fine with movies. At some point I would get the matching center but I would never worry too much about the surrounds.

I'm also interested in what you think of the 100's. I have much older monitor series speakers and am about to go to a 100 based setup.

I think everyone on this thread has 100's so I am not sure it is biased or not;)

Nice pickup I think that will be quite a step up. Please post pics when you get them. What finish did you get?

Even the Studio 20's will sound much better then your Monitors. JMO

Yes, the technology is quite different now. My monitors are 11seMk3 so they are very old.

I did some listening to the old monitors before I went to the dealer to audition 100s and all I can say is that the monitors sound very mushy in comparison.

At the time that I bought the monitors, I compared side-by-side to the studio series of that time. Some material sounded better on the studios, and some better on the monitors. I bought the monitors because I thought they were the better value.

Now with the aluminum cone drivers, there is not much room for "mush" in the studio design. ;)

I had a pair of Studio 20's, and center. I'm no longer on team Paradigm. Gave them away.

Quit acting tuff, your Wife made you give them away and change to in-ceilings...

No man. I justed wasn't using them. So I would rather see someone else enjoy them, instead of leaving them sit around.
