Oppo DV-980 vs. DV-981

The differences between these two players aren't jumping out at me, besides the obvious difference in price. What makes the 981 worth $60 more than the 980?

I can see there is a DCDi chip in the 981, but I'm not sure what is in the 980. Both have HDMI and upscaling to 1080p. Both seem to play SACD and DVDA. What more is there to it?

I spoke w/ an Oppo tech and was told that the 980 has some nicer circuitry for audio and is a great dvd player as well. I do more music listening so that would be the one for me. The 981 has the Faroudja(did I spell that correctly?)which is nice. I have read several reviews on both and they are all positive. The 980 has the hdmi, component, and analog 7.1 outs whereas the 981 has 5.1 analog multi-ch outs. Also, the 981 does not have component outs. As far as connectivity is concerned the 980 is a better choice. It also has the built in reader for pics, etc and usb port. Something I would never use but there in case. I guess it would mostly matter on your setup.

The 981 will do a much better job with video, although "much better" is, of course, subject to your own eyes. If you go over to oppodigital.com, they have a chart that outlines the differences between all the Oppo models, and suggestions as to which is best for you.

mnnc is quite right when he says that the 980 is better for audio, while the 981 is better for video.
