opm other people's money, the best kind to spend, just ask my ex-wife:( or the government.

WAF is huge:eek:

Anyway a friend is looking for 5.1 setup with the fronts that will be placed in an entertainment center. The rears will probably be wall mounted. He's also looking for a sub. Don't think too much about the sub I'll be working on that seperately.

Front porting is my obstacle here. The damned entertainment center is making this hard for me to help.

2 impossible obstacles involved here.... his room is 20 x 24 with 8' cielings, the impossible part is that his wife wants small, think BLOSE speakers, that are cute. His budget is of course lowball too boot. $700.00! I'll work on that to get him up to about $1000.00. This icludes the avr & sub.

Any help will be appreciated. BTW he's not at all opposed to used, thankfully!

I have to admit I am eagerly awaitng the review of The Speaker Company offerings since they will cover a large part of the setup at a very low cost. Hell I could probably get him into a decent sub along with the speakers with thier prices.

He is one. They don't seem hard to find.

In case you're interested, here's a write up I recently finished on the TSC P6-PR bookshelfs... -TD

Thanks guys.

The Polks were a consideration but a bit too expensive considering the budget.

The TSC may fit the bill too based purely on cost & size. Also since Tom's review wasn't glowing but certainly not damning either.

The budget here is the hard part. If he had 2k to spend it'd be a breeze.

The budget's always the fun part... :D

While that's a large room, with a good sub (which I'm sure you'll be able to build him ;)) and a capable receiver, the TSCs might do well. The P6-PRs are pretty solid speakers for the money, hopefully that came across in my review.

Used will definitely get you better options for less money, but even if you were able to afford bigger, it sounds like it likely won't pass the WAF.

You may also want to consider an LCR & sub setup to begin with, then when your friend realizes how much better it would be w/surrounds, he could always pony up for some inexpensive bookshelfs or satellites for that... -TD

Try these. Right up his budget, small enough for his spouse but a terrific speaker suite;

Thanks guys. The SVS' are really intriguing to me but just outside of the top end of his budget.

The Energy system was one I was looking at for him too.

In the end I hope to be able to find a great deal on a used setup to step up the sub to fill that huge room.
