Onkyo TX-SR806 HDMI Repeating?

I have been looking into a new receiver in the $1000 range. Give or take. One of my considerations was the Onkyo 806 but in one of the reviews it said it is not capable of "unaltered hdmi repeating"

What exactly does this mean? Is it changing the picture quality? All of my components are HDMI. Blu ray, hd box, xbox 360. My TV has HDMI in and out. Should this be of concern to me and i should be looking elsewhere? My other options were Denon, Yamaha, pinoeer elite, Or Marantz with yamaha lowest on the list.

It means that some type processing is applied to the signal. Very few AVRs are able to send signals unaltered.

Hi Terminated,

Sadly, the 806 affects the WtW and BtB (White & black level).
It is not major, but still annoying nonetheless, with blue dots that people are able to discern. And it makes for proper video adjustments harder to calibrate.

Not all people are bothered by this, but I am. ;)

Bob,

Is this the case with all Onkyo receivers? I see a couple new ones up on the website.

No it's not, it affects only some models from a certain year. Manufacturers are fixing these flaws with successive models. Onkyo, Yamaha are two brands that had that problem in certain models of their receiver's lineup.

The new Onkyo 07 series don't have that problem, so as their older 05 series.
The new Onkyo TX-NR807 is just about to hit the shelves.
It should be without any video problem. The TX-SR607 is not having the past problem of it's predecessor. But I'm not sure to which point it was similar to the 806. But if the 806 and 606 employed the same Faroudja video chip (Cinema), and the implementation was similar, then they both exibit the same problem about the Black & White color levels. And they might both exibit the same 'blue dots' annoyance on the owner's TV displays.
But this not a break deal for many people, as it is not a major flaw, but one nonetheless for people in the know, like me, and several more.

* But many people are not concern enough by this with their 806. It is not an obvious discernable flaw, it just makes it harder to properly calibrate your display, when using the HDMI video connection going through your 806.
But then, about 99% of people don't ever calibrate their TV displays.

Have a great day,
Bob

I actually decided to drop down a model as per your advice in another thread so im looking at receivers under $900. Possibly even two models lower but im not sure. So id be looking at the Onkyo 707 and lower. I was pretty set on a Denon but if the repeating issue is fixed i may put onkyo back into the choices

The Onkyo TX-SR607 has great reviews, it is an excellent receiver.
And I'm sure the new TX-SR707 and the TX-NR807 will also perform admirably. :)

It's a lovely day today, :)
