Onkyo TX-SR70 preout help

Just got the Onkyo TX-SR702. This thing has PLENTY of features to keep you happy. The auto calibration w/ mic is an awesome timesaver and is surprisingly acurate. Now onto my question.

I wish to use the pre-outs to attach a seperate amplifier, or for simplistic sake... say a powered-subwoofer.

The pre-outs volume level is variable with the master volume on the receiver. But the pre-outs have a MUCH lower volume output... meaning... I have to crank the amp volume on the sub to FULL before I'll hear anything.

My Kenwood VR-7080 pre-outs do not have this problem, their volume level is just fine. I don't have to crank up the external amp to hear content. But this Onkyo receiver uses a much lower signal.... any suggestions on how to change this? There are no options in the receiver that increases the decibles to the pre-outs. Is there a type of RCA-style signal amp I can use? Why would they make the volume level from the pre-outs so low that you can hardly use them?

BTW... I'm brand new here... this is my first post. :D

Are you using the pre out to your sub or the LFE out to the sub? That may have something to do with it?

It says in the manual to connect a powered sub to the sub preout. (Which is the only RCA sub-output) Or, you can connect the rest of the 7 preout channels into their own amp as well. (Font R/L/C Rear R/L Back R/L and Sub)

It just isn't giving me enough juice from that preout... the master volume is always MUCH higher than the preout volume. (The preout volume is variable to the main receiver volume.) I have a seperate receiver which used a Y and connected the RCA SUB-out to the front main R/L speakers. I have to turn the receivers volume to MAX just to hear some bass... all the while the Onkyo is playing already at a rather high volume. Same goes with the front/center speaker... not just the sub preout channel.

Any advice?

How have you calibrated the channel outputs in the receiver? If they are low, the preamp outs are gonna be low.

after auto calibration try to adjust the db level of your sub in the speaker setup.also make sure that your low pass filter is not set to 40hz.you will hear a little or nothing at all if the low freq on your source(cd,mp3 or movies)is higher than 40hz. :)
