One example that I know of and that I already mentioned is the Denon AVR-2809ci or the AVR-2808ci. And this is the very rare exception, not the rule.

I totally disagree, actually this contradicts what you said about the Denon 2808/09 CI.
I do agree with you that receivers in the <500 range AVR probably do not have good enough prepro in them to warrant preouts but I believe there are many >$1,000 AVRs that are equipped with nice prepros. I would be willing bet the majority of audioholics cannot tell the difference in SQ between a $1,500 AVR and a high end Anthem prepro in DBT using pure direct mode. In other modes then they will for sure sound different but there will be no consensus in terms of which one sounds better in a blind listening test.
