I have an Onkyo NR-900 that has a bad board and only plays out of one channel. When I took the receiver in to be repaired it took them several weeks to figure out the problem. The said it was a main board and would cost about $450. I bought a Marantz 8400 off of UBID and hav e been very happy with it.

I would like to try to fix the Onkyo myself to use in the basement, haven't had any luck locating parts. Service manuals seem to be available but I don't want to pay for them if I'm not going to be able to get the parts.

Can anyone provide any info or suggestions.

Thanks

Hmm...... $450 is too much, have you contacted Onkyo to see if they have the OEM parts available?

Wow that's interesting... my TX-NR900 just died a sudden death and is going to the repair shop tomorrow. I'll let you know what they come back with for an estimate. Should be interesting, especially if it's also a "main board."

(See my thread below about "clean, simple receiver")

I give up for now

I'm going to purchase a cheap 5.1 receiver off of EBay for use in my basement. I tinkered with the NR-900 last night and I can get audio through the front right channel and the zone 2 right channel only. I cannot get a proper stereo sound so I give up for now. It's too bad because I had forgotten what a solid, fully featured receiver it was.

Ohio, good luck. Hopefully, your service provider will be more familiar with that model and it will be an easy fix.

Thanks

Good news for me, it was just a bad solder joint. Total repair will be $125 with including the $50 diagnostic they credited towards the repair. Worth it for me right now until Emotiva comes out with better HDMI support in their low end.

Unfortunately it doesn't tell you much about whether that was a reasonable price for a main board.
