Hi.
Looking for advice, having a hard time. I can only have video when playing DVD connecting via ARC no AUDIO. I can't even have Set up display on the TV Screen.
I will appreciate all the help.

That unit looks like it's much older and doesn't support ARC. Connect the DVD player to the Onkyo and then the HDMI out to your display.

According to Onkyo instruction book it does support ARC.
That unit has an ARC HDMI port, but that unit was released in 2008 and HDMI ARC was released in 2009. I suspect that Onkyo jumped the gun and that the HDMI ARC spec on that unit is not correct.

In any event ARC was very hit and miss, with a lot of problems. It was not until eARC that it became truly reliable.

I would regard that unit as not having ARC.

ARC with a tv wouldn't yield the possibility of having the GUI displayed on the tv from the avr (it would only provide audio from the tv to the avr). How are you connecting your dvd player, to the avr or to the tv?

How long is your HDMI cable and have you tried a different cable?

If you think you have properly connected your Onkyo to your TV with an HDMI cable less than 12' and you can't even see a setup screen from the receiver then you likely have a blown HDMI board. You can try a receiver reset. How long have you had this receiver? I suspect you have recently bought this receiver used. Is that correct?

On further research, I note that those receivers are known for frequent failure of the DSP chips resulting in no sound. Can you get sound with a device connected to your receiver? The other frequent failure reported with those units was HDMI board failure. it seems those receiver have a bad rap sheet.
