I don't know if this has been discussed anywhere. If so I'm sure some smart aleck will let me know in no uncertain terms.

Looks like a great player that has all the tools to bitrate to my Marantz. However, no 2.0. WTH???? Even the cheap players by Sony, Panasonic, etc... have it now. What is Onkyo thinking? I would have really considered getting one otherwise. Price seems to be around $450 at the competitive e-tailers such as BH Photo and OneCall. Anyone think the lack of 2.0 is strange?

No, lack of 2.0 doesn't surprise me. It would be a cost cutting measure and the cheapest players also seem to be only profile 1.1, though if that is the street price I would say it is overpriced without 2.0. Unless you actually NEED 2.0 (BD Live) for some reason though, it shouldn't be a deal breaker, but I am not sure they would be the place to look as their players aren't proven yet; though I can almost certainly say they are not manufacturing this player in house - it is most likely sourced from another OEM.

All of the internals of their HD-DVD player were identical to the Toshiba, it just had a different casing around it that said "Onkyo." I wouldn't be surprised if it were the same in this case, though it certainly wouldn't be Toshiba internals this time.

AFAIK, it wasn't just the internals, the units that Onkyo branded were actually manufactured by Toshiba, as were most of the ones from others regardless of brand name.

Being their first BD player, I would guess they are not manufacturing it, but will eventually produce something of their own (using the key mechanisms from another OEM, which is normal)
