I decided to buy a pair of these.

They arrived today. Very impressed with everything about the speakers. How they look, feel, and sound.

How it is possible to get away with calling these a bookshelf speaker is beyond me. They're quite large.

How exactly would you define a bookshelf speaker? It isn't a tower....

X-ls + twin x-subs = OH MY!

The little xsubs really lay some smackith down on movies as well as music. My floor was shaking nicely when the wave crushed NYC in day after tom. Felt like a semi was driving threw my livingroom @ 80mph.

Amazing combo regardless of price. Can't wait to see how Mark is going to astound us with the rest of the X-line. Keep it coming big daddy.;)

I dunno - I'm pretty much an audio newb. I have a pair of Polk R15 that I could imagine putting on just about any bookshelf.

I'm just saying the X-LS speakers are quite large and could not possibly fit on any bookshelf I have ever seen - hence calling them bookshelf speakers seems odd.

The phrase "bookshelf" speaker has been around for about 50 years - it was popularized by ACoustic Research with their "AR-1" in the mid 1950's. If memory serves, it had a 12 inch woofer, and was about 14W x 24H x 12D ... and pretty much all designs along this line were called "bookshelf". I think we guys coined that to convince our wives that these types of speakers were "decor friendly" ... :D

I have just received the x-sub on Friday. Test it on Monday. Couldn't find the perfect spot for it at that time. After moving it here and there, it has its own perfect spot. Haven't tried it for movies but pair up nicely with my Mordaunt Short for music.

I was always unde rthe impression "bookshelf" was referring to a short bedroom style bookshelf, like the kind school kids had in their rooms.

Meaning "these are not floorstanding (tower) speakers, put them on something (stands preferred!)."

I have preordered an X-CS and succumbed to temptation with the extremely limited edition XL-S. Looks like I'm going to have a 5.1 upstairs too...ooops!
