Steve Earle's newest, "I'll Never Get Out of This World Alive". Earle has had quite a journey, from Nashville bad boy stardom, addiction, arrests, numerous marriages, rehab all the way to being clean and living in Greenwich Village NYC with his wife Allison Moorer as a sort of urban/country troubadour.

He owns his label so he can write whatever he wants (a problem in the past because of his outspoken views that didn't play well with the Nashville mafia). This new CD is very rootsy, was produced by T-Bone Burnett and has some of his trademark Southern Gothic touches. The musical chemistry between Earle's songs and Burnett's production is quite good and is something Earle has lacked in recent albums. If you like Earle, this is excellent.

Pink Martini's "Splendor in the Grass." Don't know why I waited so long to buy the LP: It's wonderful, wonderful music--definitely my favorite from them so far. And great sound to boot.

The Columbia 180 gram reissue of Miles' "Kind of Blue." Not as good as the Classic reissue of course, but a lot less $$ and well worth the $20 or so.

Just got Joshua Redman's Moodswing vinyl reissue, forgot how much I love this album. Nice, quiet pressing, too.

Dave Matthews. usually Live at Luther College or Live at Central Park. I think I might pick up Warren Haynes' new album too.

It's late where I am and I'm enjoying Brian Eno Ambient 1/Music for Airports. It's very cool.

Social Distortion/Mike Ness has a relatively new CD, Hard Times and Nursery Rhymes and it's quite good. Ness's solo CDs are desert island choices for me, so this one is welcome, a must for fans and fun for the uninitiated. His flavor of punk/rockabilly/county is loud, simple and well done.
