The tariff issue is more complex than people realize, particularly when it comes to food. A lot of food grown in Canada is processed in the U.S. Take berries grown in British Columbia as an example. They get shipped to Washington state for processing and packaging and are then sent back to B.C. for sale! Would tariffs on both sides lead to a 25% tariff shipping to WA and then another 25% tariff on the goods returning to Canada? What about the quantity of fruits and vegetables that California sells to Canada?

I know one thing for certain. The Canadian government will be looking at promoting more local processing plants to secure our food supply and that will mean less business for American food processors.

We also have some very different philosophies on food supply. The supply chain management for products like dairy, eggs and chickens make trade deals much more complex.

I never said it would be easy. However, we don't live in a Tom Clancy novel. If anyone thinks sending mercs into Latin American countries is a better solution, they have rocks in their heads.
Yeah, exciting for many to read and watch his stuff about mercs, but not necessarily the way it works in real life. However, sending AGENTS into Central & South America has happend over the decades- they were tasked with eliminating drug manufacturing facilities and capture as many as they could.

About 40 years ago, the DEA found a German chemist who came up with a way to mix Cocaine into the resin used for making bathtubs. They bought one, followed the instructions and it worked great, so they bought seven more. He was so pleased with the order that he flew to the US on the same plane and was arrested as soon as he walked out.

@Dude- WTF is dumb about my post? Try it- squeeze your throat so you can't breathe and try to speak or yell. You might make a bit of a squawking sound but even then, air MUST pass through your vocal cords. It might be possible that the knee on his back was preventing him from inhaling- eventually, that will kill someone. I'm pretty sure the cops freaked out and went into attack mode when they saw that Floyd was 6'-7".

We all know agents have been sent Central & South America for decades but this is not this recent posts are about.

We have been at war with the Cartels since Reagan. Obviously we have been complicit along the CIA getting in bed with them but if we can do it correctly we should. Mexico is a complete Narco State, if we could manage to drastically diminish the Cartels power and give Mexico a chance to choose their own leaders without the Cartels killing any decent opposition candidate we should. We are directly responsible for this mess and cleanup is going to suck but it eventually needs to happen. If you have a better idea speak up. Some of these PMC’s have recruited the best tier 1 operators from around the world and have better air power than Ukraine, they would run through the Cartels like they weren’t there and make Gaza look like a nice place to live. If you don’t believe me watch what’s about to happen to Gaza after the hostages are released as Israel just hired the PMCs, not of the released terrorists will be living very long.
Go after the drug users hard - 10 year jail and drug rehab. along with required hard labor. It is basic capitalism where there is a demand there will be a supply. We molly coddle the users here and blame others for our failure. Blaming others is politically easy I understand.

Going after the cartels have failed since Nixon era. Even PCMs will get corrupted with the easy money floating around.

Finally, your posts seem to make the Palestinians sub-humans to be exterminated. Why?

About 25% of Canadian exports are energy to the US. Their economy is already in big trouble so they cannot afford that. Tack on 25% tariffs to the remainder of their exports which about half is to the US and their economy is toast. Trump will absolutely except these terms as they will last a week at best and be a blip on the radar for the US economy. They should have come to the negotiating table and had a seat but now they’ll be on their knees. Doesn’t matter if you agree or disagree on the tactics this is where we’re at now, Trump doesn’t even need to negotiate anymore and just lay out the terms.

PMC’s have been getting billions and are corrupted by the US, EU and Israel, cartels are piwerful and rich but peanuts on a global scale. The top 10 PMC’s have a troop strength of over 6,000,000 (yes a lot are basic security guards) plus several private intelligence agencies that contract with the US (and manage most of our military computer systems) Interpol as well as MI5/MI6. The entire US military is around 2.7!’million and most are in support roles. No they don’t compare in real power to the US military but the ability to put boots on the ground and fight outside the rules of engagement according to international law is insane. If they are let loose on the Cartels it would be absolute slaughter and the Cartels wouldn’t stand a chance. Maybe we find out and maybe we don’t.

edit add: Blackrock owns the best private intelligence firm, the guy that just got caught by James O’keefe saying he briefs the Joint Chiefs was working for this intelligence firm. A subsidiary also holds the contracts to maintain computer systems for every military branch. This may sound crazy but spend 30 minutes with google and blow your mind.

Go after addiction which is an actual medical condition and force hard labor like the Democrat funded prison institutions?

We have never gone after Cartels, we have played with them using failed CIA policies trying to control them by getting in bed with them which has never worked. It hasn’t worked in regime change either, time we learn our lesson and just destroy our enemies, the world doesn’t respect weakness and never has, just because we pretend to be some enlightened society doesn’t mean we’ve achieved it.

Palestinians? Are you for year? On Oct 7 the whole of Palestine was out celebrating the terrorist attacks on Israel. Recently when hostage negotiations were announced Palestinians again took to the streets to celebrate their “victory” and vowed to repeat Oct 7. THEY ARE SUBHUMAN. There’s actual evil in this world and sadly we have chosen to play with it thinking we can appease it. A liberal world view just doesn’t resonate with those who wish you death, the rest of the world doesn’t agree with or understand western values and never will.

13.4% of Americans work for the government. 9.7% of Americans work for a nonprofit funded by government grants. 21% of Americans are on government assistance. I can’t find data for the number of Americans who work for government contractors but I’m sure it’s a lot. Last year the government spent 711 billion more than it made.

You may hate Trump and that’s fine but no president has done jack to actually cut government spending or make a real attempt at bringing jobs back to America. Sure they play with the numbers and claim 1-2% hear or there but that doesn’t do anything in reality and the train is heading towards a cliff and the Ponzi scheme of the stock market won’t sustain us much longer.

Perhaps Trump fixes it or is the nail in the coffin but sticking our heads in the sand isn’t an answer

While I don't pay much attention to Twitter anymore, because...well...everything. However, there are some legacy posters with something useful to say, including this one:
https://x.com/GenevaTradeLaw/status/1883932203853467752

> NAFTA was renegotiated 5 years ago, at Trump's insistence. He signed a new deal and proclaimed victory. Now, he's ignoring his own deal and making demands, based on...what? It's clear that migrants and narcotics are just red herrings. He hasn't specified any particular trade complaints - he wants tariffs, because he wants tariffs. Biden left a US economy that has been doing fine - low unemployment, high GDP growth. So, what is Trump trying to fix?

> Come to the table and negotiate? Fine. For the sake of argument, let's assume he has specific trade issues he wants addressed. The USMCA has a mechanism for addressing them. Why is he ignoring his own agreement? Could it be that he doesn't have anything specific to negotiate?

> Canada is the US's largest export customer. Exports to Canada and Mexico combined total more than exports to the rest of the world. Does he want to cripple those economies and kill his main customers? That's stupid.

> As for Canada's economy being in "big trouble", while it isn't trouble-free, does this look like an economy in "big" trouble?

> If "Trump doesn’t even need to negotiate anymore and just lay out the terms", why should - as you suggested - anyone come to the negotiating table?

> Right now, he's trying to pick off his targets one at a time. If the rest of the world smartens up and decides, as a group, that they will not play this game, it's all going to blow up in his face. Of course, that will depend on the rest of the world actually smartening up...

> Bottom line is, he isn't playing 3-D chess. He is creating needless chaos. While there may - ostensibly - be some short-term "wins", over the longer term, if these tactics continue, it will crash the world economy.

Believe it or not Trumps popularity poll numbers are higher than they ever were during his last Presidential term. I guess America is more than ok with this. Let's give a year or 2.
Or we could give it a week.

>>>Overall, the poll showed 45% of Americans approve of Trump's performance as president, down slightly from 47% in a Jan. 20-21 poll. The share who disapproved was slightly larger at 46%, an increase from 39% in the prior poll.

The poll had a margin of error of about 4 percentage points. . . .

It may be too early to evaluate whether Trump is squandering his political capital by focusing on issues where he is not aligned with the public, Kondik said. But the poll shows that many of his early actions have been greeted warmly only by his hardcore base of supporters. <<<

Given the 4% margin of error and fluctuations in poll numbers generally, the most recent polls do of course need to be taken with a grain of salt.
