Do you have any link for that detailing the circumstances?
A presidential pardon is only for federal crimes, not state ones, nor for any new crimes committed. There very well could be state charges not permitting them release from Federal prison.
One of the violent J6 "heroes", Andrew Kyle Grigsby of Louisville, is currently incarcerated for kiddie porn in a Kentucky state prison.
Dozens of Kentuckians convicted for crimes committed at the Jan. 6 Capitol insurrection received a full pardon from President Donald Trump as one of his first acts in office.

Here's an example of J6 convict who managed to commit additional crimes during a short period of freedom:
>>>One Tri-Cities defendant, though, won’t likely be leaving the D.C. Metropolitan Jail any time soon.
That’s because Taylor Taranto, 39, of Pasco, also is facing federal felony weapons charges after allegedly attempting to gain access to former president Barack Obama’s D.C. home in 2023, while federal agents were already searching for him over a series of threats to blow up lawmakers and a federal building. . . .
Taranto has been denied bail because of the seriousness of the threats, which included Taranto claiming in messages that he had a contract to kill former Vice President Kamala Harris, according to court documents.<<<(emphasis added)
A number of the J6 convicts have extensive criminal records, and some managed to commit additional crimes that are not covered by Trump's pardon.
Taranto gave Walls-Kaufman a heavy metal tactical cane that he then used to attack officer Jeffrey Smith (as shown on the officer's body camera), causing fractures to the officer's face and and sub-orbital cavities:
"The scuffle between Walls-Kaufman and my husband can be viewed on Jeffrey’s body-worn camera in addition to the record of injuries received during the altercation, which include fractures to his face and sub-orbital cavities, as well the traumatic brain injuries and concussion, all referenced by Dr. Arden," Erin Smith wrote. "When the body camera video is slowed to a frame-by-frame view,
Walls-Kaufman struck Jeffrey at least twice in the face with his own baton, after gaining control of it in the Capitol. Walls-Kaufman is a trained martial artist and used his training for malicious conduct that day when he came into contact with police." (emphasis added)
Judge pushes Justice Department to explain how it handled a case against a Jan. 6 defendant David Walls-Kaufman who admitted that he "scuffled" with police.

Here are the charges against Walls-Kaufman in the charging document:
Does anyone want to argue that he was a victim of overzealous prosecutors?
He's criminal scum.
