As much as I would love to welcome Krells in my dreams, I would have to be selective. The KAV 250 gives 207.4 watts in 8 ohms, and 407.9 watts in 4 ohms. However the Showcase 7 tests at 140.4 watts in 8 ohms, and 201.7 in 4 ohms, showing that even Krell employ accountants.

How realistic would it be to simply upgrade your amplifier's power supply? I think for a person of the OPs expertise it would be an option work exploring. As a HK owner I still much prefer the Denon approach.

But every manufacturer has a different level of commitment towards quality, and all I am saying is that ACD test results tend to be an indication of that. Out of reach for most people, but not complicated for a technician. And cheap, there's a lot of broken monster amps on eBay with great power supplies (must be of same voltage or slightly less). However as was said before, the extra current capacity, if used fully must be handled by the amplifier's output stage, otherwise poooof. As a HK owner I still much prefer the Denon approach. Just because of that, I didn't think we can ignore the impact of the electronics such as the output devices, on the AVR's two channel output ratings, and I am not saying anyone did either.
