On the relevancy of ACD tests, Power Supplies, Amplifier topologies

when in doubt get seven krell monoblocks.
As much as I would love to welcome Krells in my dreams, I would have to be selective.
The KAV 250 gives 207.4 watts in 8 ohms, and 407.9 watts in 4 ohms. That is probably as close to perfection as one can get and certainly the best I have ever seen.
However the Showcase 7 tests at 140.4 watts in 8 ohms, and 201.7 in 4 ohms, showing that even Krell employ accountants.

Why should we raised the price point for people over headroom that really isn't necessary for the general public?

How realistic would it be to simply upgrade your amplifier's power supply?

I think for a person of the OPs expertise it would be an option work exploring.

As a HK owner I still much prefer the Denon approach.

What is Denon's approach ?

Manufacturers never add quality to their product that is not visible to the general public, so no worries...
But every manufacturer has a different level of commitment towards quality, and all I am saying is that ACD test results tend to be an indication of that.

Out of reach for most people, but not complicated for a technician. And cheap, there's a lot of broken monster amps on eBay with great power supplies (must be of same voltage or slightly less). However as was said before, the extra current capacity, if used fully must be handled by the amplifier's output stage, otherwise poooof.

I think you are saying that for the same ACD power, you would prefer the amp that has the higher stereo power. The advantages are that it also cost less to produce, and is lighter when you need to rearrange your setup.

Seriously, I have no life.
WIMP!!!! I'm getting 14 mono blocks so I can bi-amp!! Oh yeah BABY!!! :D and open a welding shop on the side.
A welding shop? Much cheaper if you buy a single purpose welder. ;):D

Ok lets clear the air...
Within an AVR the most costly single component is the power transformer, that is why its specs are frequently decreased... Also the power supply capacitors enter into the cost formula, the lower the capacity and rated voltage the cheaper...
No argument from me on this. As I said in my earlier response to jeannot, electronic components in AVRs are cheap relative to their power supplies. Just because of that, I didn't think we can ignore the impact of the electronics such as the output devices, on the AVR's two channel output ratings, and I am not saying anyone did either.
