If you are to make it DIFFERENCES rather than 'things' then yes. But humans often describe sounds in ways that have no measurable properties. But in every case, if an audiophile can hear a difference, then that difference can be measured.

I wonder way audiophiles never put that claim to the test?

Perhaps the answer may scare them. I have a friend who used to write reviews, not in the majhor rags though. He said: what will he do if he cannot hear a difference under controlled conditions? He would have no further reviews to write.

I would answer differently than swerd, unless I am misunderstanding.
Psychoacoustics doesn't cause anything. It is the study and understanding of perception, measuring and defining.
People spend because they lack knowledge and understanding human perception.
But, I could be way off base. Swerd will straighten me out if needed.
