No sound from yamaha htr-5950 receiver

Oh I got a Yamaha HTR 5950 receiver from a friend and it doesn't have sound and he wasn't sure why then you wanted me to look at it taking the top cover off and it looks like on the board like someone spilled oil or something like that so I cleaned it all up and then I hook power up to it and there is no sound coming out of either Channel or any of the surround sound channels and it's just on tuner.
Other than the issue with no sound it seems like the receiver works fine all the buttons work all the options settings Etc on the receiver.
I need help troubleshooting this issue thanks

On page 97 are instructions to reset the unit back to its factory default settings. Reset the unit and then go through the initial setup. Start from the beginning but Basic setup is on page 28.

If the unit still produces no sound then you need to have it looked at by a qualified service technician.

Usually the manual is a better approach.
