Can anyone enlighten me why there is no way to turn my 5 disc Denon player on/off with my remote?

I seem to remember a sony es player I used to have with the same lack of the feature.

I am sure there must be a good reason, I am just curious!

Yes, basically all of Sony's CD players have always been this way too. I even sent them a letter regarding it...to no avail. The only one I've owned that had it actually was a Marantz. With my 2ch system, I just plugged the CD player into my integrated's switched outlet since it is the only device connected, it comes on when the amp powers up.

I understand that no on/off switch from the remote is fairly standard. I just want to know "WHY".

All of my other components have this feature; why does the CD changer not have it?

I don't think there is anything standard about having only a physical power switch on the player and no remote code to turn it on or off. That's the kind of thing you usually only see on esoteric name brands (the kind that most people have never heard about but most audiophiles think are the best thing since sliced bread).

I've never understood why the manufacturer would do it nor would I ever buy such a player.
