Due to multiple leaks, including a physical mockup at a vendor at CES, Nintendo was forced to confirm when the Switch 2 details would be released and also released images of the unit:

$449 for the Switch 2. $80 for games?! Despite the additional capability, I am going to hold off on it at that price. $499 bundled with Mario Kart World, which is a decent savings, but still a lot for a Switch.

So what they are saying is, they will not change the price of the Switch itself due to the tariffs, but the price of literally all other peripherals were increased already ahead of the release in June.

Those game prices won't fly in Europe where we have Value Added Tax (VAT) ranging from 15% to 25%, depending on country. Way too expensive.

$80 games sure feels like too much period. Tax or no tax, that is too much. The target audience was kids and casual gamers for the first one. Those categories won't pay top tier prices for games.

Personally I only play on a PC and I seldom buy games as I've bought only two games in the last two/three years at full price. I'm not that price sensitive, though, so I don't mind higher prices if I think I can play the game for many hours repeatedly.

What I really don't like is micro-transactions in a game and I avoid those games: That is a plague.

But it opens the gates to others to increase their game prices as well. Game developers left and right have either merged or gone under post Covid, so there are fewer of them now, at least A list game studios.

It is not an affordability thing for me either, it is just that is it really necessary? OK, the last Mario Kart game, I see people still play almost 10 years later, so the value is there IF you play it a lot over time.

It sure does have that risk to increased game prices but I think that AAA game studios should have a look at their business model. Most of those games looks gorgeous but the story/game play is not necessarily to the same level as the "look".

My soap box: Any micro-transactions except for "looks" is a detriment to any game.

Older games like Fallout 4 and Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim are two of my favourites. Then there is the my longest played game, Nethack, that I've played for about 25-30 years. :D

Hello Games released No Man's Sky 8 years ago on PlayStation. It is now available on basically every platform. I still play it whenever they release an update. They release massive, worth while changes to the game every year for FREE. NO paid DLC. Their next game uses the same engine but changes many aspects. That game is coming out first for PC this time...

I agree, many AAA games go for splash and show, but don't entirely deliver on story and fun. A game doesn't have to have a great story to be fun, but if it doesn't have at least either fun OR story, then it isn't going to do well.
