I will HATE Ryan Leaf forever, and if I ever come across him, I'll punch him in the face. But he's the schmuck that will have to hear every year on draft day for the rest of his life, "Will 'insert name here', be a future hall of famer, or the next Ryan Leaf?"

What a punk. What's he doing now, teaching golf? Loser.

You have a lot of pent up anger. First you want to slap me, then punch Eli, and Leaf.

Anger is a natural human emotion and is nature's way of empowering us to "ward off" our perception of an attack or threat to our well being. The problem is not anger, the problem is the mismanagement of anger. Mismanaged anger and rage is the major cause of conflict in our personal and professional relationships

Coming from a New York fan, I'm a bit disappointed in you for saying that.

Was it "Harsh" when Phil Simms took all that criticism, and abuse early in his career?
Fortunately or unfortunately for me (depending on your point of view) Phil Simms was drafted 2 months before I was born, so I have no first person recollection of the reception he got from New York fans :D.

Simms could just have easily been as big of a bust as Leaf, but from what I understand he had a much better attitude and was therefore able to deal with a tough atmosphere (New York), a poor team, and some injuries.

Then it is "Unfortunate" for you that you missed the "Best Quarterback of All Time" play the game.

I didn't say I never saw him play.... I was thrilled to pieces that my dad let me stay up to watch all of Super Bowl XXI... I just don't know anything about the draft day reaction and his first few bad years.

The fact that Sportscenter junkies think Favre will end up with the Bucs is almost ironclad proof that he won't.

Those guys rarely get things right. They're the same doofuses who are turning Manny's "if they trade me, they trade me. I play ball and I'll do it anywhere" comments into "The Sox front office is getting so frustrated with Manny, and Manny wants out!" They're nuts, and dumb to boot.
He will look good in a L.A Dodgers uniform (traded today).

J. E. T. S. Jets! Jets! Jets! Aqcuire Brett Farve from the Green Bay Packers for a conditional pick ranging from 4th round to 1st. With the arrival of Farve , Chad "noodle arm" Pennington will be either released or traded. I am not too happy about this because now he is in the AFC East . This is the only division I did not want him to go to.

I just don't see it having a huge impact on the Jets. They've already brought in about 10 new free agent starters on both sides of the ball, and now they're going to try to add a 38 year-old guy who hasn't even practiced since January (season starts in less than a month and who has played with virtually the same offense for the past 16 years. Do you really think he can learn an entire new offense, including terminology, in a 3 week timeframe?? I say Favre isn't up to speed with his offense until week 5 or 6 of the season, and by then the New York media will be on him like vultures if he hasn't gone 6-0 and not thrown 20 TDs and 0 ints.

Realistically, the Jets were going to be better than they were last year anyway, so maybe Favre gives them an extra game or two that drives them to 9-7. In the stacked AFC they probably still miss the playoffs.

For one of the most balanced takes on the issue, check out this article on Football Outsiders:

i highly doubt they miss the playoffs and brett can make any team who at least has some skill quite good... being a diehard packer fan this like killed to see brett traded to jets on espn last night... i seriously believe if the packers had kept brett there would be a very large chance of seeing them in the super bowl this year... now with aaron rodgers (who? our new starting quarterback) i highly doubt this especially since at a scrimmage he only managed 7/20 completions! this could be a very sad seasons for the pack! :-(

I think this is a good fit for Farve and can have a huge impact on the team. The Jets offense with Pennigton was basically 3 step drop "dink" and "dunk", nothing more than 20 yars down the field (the pakers did alot of this last year). Brett Farve is a master at that type of game with RB screens, dumping it off to RB, WR screens, and especially timed slant passes to the WR's. Farve is also excellent at the long ball also which was basically non-existent in the jets offense because of Chads lack of arm strength. With speed recievers such as coles this is a huge addition to their playbook. If the Jets can establish a decent run-attack and can throw in some effective play-action they will have an excellent offense.

If D. Mac can stay healthy we'll be on top of the NFC again even without a stud WR.
If not, we'll be 8-8/9-7.

What is Vince Papale coming out of retirement? That's the only way the Eagles are going to be competitive.

I said "if". :)

When he was healthy in the past they 'DOMINATED' the NFC since '01.
I personally went to three wins over the jersey giants.

minus......Kevin Kolb.

Two points to counter:

1) Favre has grown much less accurate with the long ball over the past 3 years. I don't have the stats in front of me right now, but his completion % on longer passes have gone down and according to the game charters it has a lot more to do with lack of accuracy than with drops or passes defensed.

2) Coles is no longer a speed receiver- this is generally accepted fact among NFL scouts. He is 30 years old and has had several surgeries on his lower body. That's not to say he isn't fast, he just is not the burner that he was when he was 22.

My point is that I don't see Favre alone being able to make an incremental difference in the Jets season. The Jets were going to be better anyway due to some of their offensive upgrades (e.g. O-line).

Fact is, if you look at Favre's stats from 2003 (his last pro bowl year before 2007) until 2006, you'll notice a steady decline. Completion % dropped, TDs dropped, TD/INT ratio rose, Yds/Att dropped, QB rating dropped (although a meaningless stat), and he was getting sacked more. The only positive stat that rose was yards, but that's because his passing attempts skyrocketed (more a function of the team than Brett). Basically, you were looking at a QB who was getting old.

2007 was one hell of a miracle year for both Favre and the Packers. Brett had his best statistical season since 2001. The Packers, as the 2nd youngest team in football, won their first playoff game since 2003.

It's very hard to use the past as a predictor for the future (I should know, I'm a Giants fan!!! :D:D:D), but if I was betting on the type of season Favre is going to have I think the 2003-06 period is more indicative of his effectiveness in 2008 than his 2007 campaign.

Even as a Giants fan it was sobering to see him get sacked 12 times during that Sunday night game against the Giants. I was there in person sitting on the 50, and we just could not believe how many times he got chased down from behind by a DE or DT. Not that I wasn't cheering of course.... :)
