I've been waiting for my Verizon contract to end so my Touch could be replaced with an AT&T iPhone. I use mine all the time for movies and some music playback - especially when travelling.

Hope they have this is 64GB and that they get it on Verizon, but the article and information presented is pretty interesting.

There is a separate version that will be out on Verizon; it has a different model number with some changes to work on their system (CDMA).

I love my iPod Touch but I hate iTunes with a passion. I'm a Verizon customer and I do not want to switch.

I have found my next phone.

I have a Blackberry Storm which does everything I need it to do - including Bluetooth voice dialing. That seems to be a feature missing from most of the latest smart phones. It's why I didn't take the upgrade to the Motorola Droid. I'll probably upgrade later this year but whatever I upgrade to must:
  • Support BT voice dialing
  • Have a great camera (for a phone)
  • support at least 32GB of storage - 64GB would be better
I'm also hopping for a slide out keyboard. I'm hoping the upcoming Zune Phone fits the bill.

I have a Storm and I HATE it. I cannot stand this phone. When it's not locking up, throwing errors, or running out of RAM and needing a battery pull (with TWO apps installed), I cannot type on it to save my life. I'm on my third one. The touch screen on the first two just stopped working.

I actually like onscreen keyboards. I can type on the iPhone/iPod and Android onscreen keyboard just fine but the clicking screen on the Storm makes it more work than it's worth.

That's too bad. I've had to do a hard reset twice in almost a year and a half. I've never had memory issues either. Good luck with it.

I tried to love it. I got it right after it was released. The original OS was really bad. I kept thinking, "Oh it will get better... they'll fix all of these bugs". It wasn't until OS 5 was finally released that it became semi tolerable.

Maybe I'm spoiled by my iPod Touch but when I compare the two devices, there is no comparison.

That's always been my experience with my Touch, and most reviews I read. While many phones are very good, they still miss out on the simple, easy to use - extremely intuitive - interface of the iPhone/Touch. Some of them are excellent phones, but they still aren't an iPhone, so I will wait.

I really like the video out functionality of the Touch because I use them for video testing all the time to ensure that video lines which are in place are all working properly, and hook up audio lines for basic testing of capability.

I could live without iTunes, but I've got abotu 200 movies in my library and growing, so I am not too perturbed about all of it. iTunes just isn't my favorite application.

The areas where the iPhone fails seem to revolve around things which other smart phones have put in like multi-app processes, or tethering. I think Internet tethering to a laptop (Blackberry) is completely amazing for those rare times I have needed it.

The thing about the early (gen 1 & 2) iPhones is that they were an iPod with a phone in there someplace. That's what kept me from buying one. Well that and they were AT&T only. Hopefully the 4th gen will be perfection once they get multitasking this summer. There are so many great phones out there right now and more coming. All with big pluses and minuses. ATOS declared the Pre Plus the best smartphone ever tested. Yet Palm has little developer support and will probably go under. The Apple is saddled with iTunes and no multi-tasking yet. BB's suffer for a business phone mentality. Motorola's Droid doesn't voice dial over BT - I guess they forgot it was a phone. HTC's Droid Incredible will probably suffer from poor HTC support and doesn't have enough storage . Google's Nexus One had me tempted but they kind of blew the rollout. The upcoming Win 7 Mobile ("zune phones") look like they have a lot of promise but will probably suffer from too many flavors - none perfect.

I hope the next one would allow multi tasking which the Apple OS has been lacking.
Rumors are that the next firmware will allow for multi-tasking to be available on all iPhone OS to this point. It may impact some applications with the older/slower processors, but I would expect it to be good for some things.

I really wish they supported tethering with it. I also would like some options, but I need video out capability for sure, and I would like a significant library of programs available to me on my Verizon network. So, I'm probably not in for an Incredible, but I will see what is all out when the iPhone hits the Verizon network.

OS 4.0 is confirmed to have multitasking. It doesn't work for all apps and for an app to support multitaksing, it must be approved by Apple (I think the only apps are going to be approved are music streaming and voip apps). Also, multitasking is only available for the 3GS and higher, so 1st Gen and 3G doesn't get it due to the slower processor. I call BS on this one as jailbroken iphones already support multitasking - just another way for Apple to force its users to upgrade.

Another really cool update will be the ability to create folders and a revamped email app that supports threading.

Doesn't the iphone already support tethering? It works with my 3G...

Maybe one of the prior OS versions didn't support it. Good to see the newest does.

I'm pretty set on the new iPhone, but will be watching the HTC offerings as well.
I think thethering came last year in OS 3.0. I remember there was a delay in the US due to AT&T... not sure if that was resolved or not. AT&T's counter part in Canada had it up and running within a week or so.

I will probably get this phone as well. They were saying the Nexus One would be on Verizon, but this phone is actually the Verizon version of the Nexus one made to work on their system. My upgrade comes up next month so I should get a good deal on it.

I tried desperately to get my upgrade a few months early. My upgrade is due at the end of August. They wouldn't let me. Instead, they sent me yet another Storm... which I did not ask for. It actually just arrived today and I haven't even touched it yet.

A co-worker got the Incredible. I want that phone so bad. It is THE nicest phone I have ever used.
