Do you have more information on the room? Like the ceiling height and type? Is the room carpeted or hardwoord/cermaic? Lots of hard surfaces like windows and brick or softer with lots of paintings and soft, frilly stuff?
I'm asking because the room makes a big difference. Heck, just go to different retailers with audio rooms and hear the differences. My room is a box, about 18ft x 18 ft with 17ft ceiling. All hard surface too except for the carpet. So it's definitely an echo chamber. I will probably end up adding wall treatments to knock the sound once my speaker arrive. It's also why I'm staying away from horn tweaters.
One thing to consider is what your listening will be. Is 100% home theatre or a mix of music and cinema? Do you have an existing subwoofer? Can you describe your ears? Meaning, do you know what type of performance you want from your speakers?
Yeah, there are a ton of options out there. I know because I spent a bunch of time researching to figure out what I should buy. I know there are people that like Polk and I've only listened to the mid-range/lower end Poolk you can find at Best Buy. Compared to Klipsch RF series, I prefered the Klipsch to Polk. But then the Klipsch fell out of favor compared to other (more expensive) brands due to the fatigue I felt from the horn tweaters. It's a personal preference thing. But if I was 75-100% home theatre, then I'd probably be very happy with the Klipsch.
My advice? Do some thinking/pondering. What type of person are you? I'm very visual/audio centric. Meaning I like to listen to music and I can hear the subtle nuances and the audio creates that sound stage in my mind where I can hear the backup singers are on the left side of the stage, etc...
Then if you have time and are in an area where you can to stores or friends houses, go listen to various brands in your price range. Keep in mind, the salemen will try to upsell you. But the best advice I can give is listen, listen, listen. Take your music if you want an accurate comparison. And think about the room differences, it may clue you in to what they might sound like in your room. That helped me a ton.
What did I buy? Axiom M60 fronts with a VP150 center. I haven't listened to them, so I'm taking a leap of faith. But what I learned from listening to many different brands clued me in to what I like. So from the reviews, I suspect these will be a set that I will enjoy. Plus the 30 day trial period swayed me. I just go the shipping notification so I'll post my impression when they arrive.
