I really think the kappa build would be the best option, but it would take the most work. Although the results you would achieve from the build would be well worth the effort.

now is the kappa build a kit u buy,,,or something that I have to put together,,,,,,

if this is the best overall choice in terms of price/performance.... what would be an alternative....?

did a search and found the diy build thread... looking at everything and the cost,,, I dont see this as an option RIGHTNOW ...

my woodworking skills sux
the cost for everything ,to include having someone cut the wood precisely for me,would exceed my anticipation for cost ,,,
and the fact that I would have to finish the wood afterwards,,,, kindof turns me off to this idea

im sure if I were to do it,,that just the satisfaction of completing such a project would be great,, but I have very lil time to dedicate to it.... one mainreason why im not doing caraudio anymore

You could always find a local cabinet maker to do the enclosures for you, at least price them, all you have to do is print off a few pages and get some estimates. But if that's still not an option, the dual BIC subs should suit you well.

What is you budget?
well i thought i could go with 800 tops... but after seeing what i could get for less.. im leaning more and more towards the lesser costing subs.. so i can run duals..

i can afford to run dual
BIC H100 http://www.overstock.com/Electronics/Bic-Acoustech-H100-Cinema-Series-Powered-Subwoofer/1513356/product.html?sec_iid=33969
or
Premier Acoustics PA10 http://www.overstock.com/Electronics/Premier-Acoustic-PA-10-Subwoofer/2299064/product.html?cid=123620&fp=F&ci_src=14110944&ci_sku=10546036

i even considered the dayton sub 120ht http://www.parts-express.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?Partnumber=300-635&vReviewShow=1&vReviewRand=7510431

kind of funny though.. because i have a vaulted cieling.. and a loft somewhat over the theater area.. seen inmy first post ,, the sub sounds really good.. and extends low.. but i know that is just the lower freq audio waves completing themselves.. oh well.. im expecting good things from my purchase,,, which ever i choose..

I own the Dayton Subwoofer and I can't recommend it for a main HT system use. Maybe for PC or a bedroom system. I won't even put this subwoofer with my secondary system. Currently, its on my 3rd and lowest priced system; my PC. For the money, I guess its better than a PC subwoofer but don't expect miracles here with the Dayton.

And coming from the car audio side first having been around Kicker and JL Audio all of my teen years, I am still searching for that feeling I get from listening to car subwoofer on this side of the Home Audio....So far, no such luck. I know the space inside a car and a home is two differrent thing but GOD DAMN IT, I WANT TO FEEL BASS again...not just hear it.

I have this Dayton:
http://www.parts-express.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?Partnumber=300-635

I guess you can't go wrong with the price but it's just not up to my standard but considering the price I pay, I can't really complain......but like I said before....I wouldn't use it on my 1st HT system.

Too bad AV123 MFW 15 is having soo much problems with their amps because I got that sucker for $500 and it wasn't too shabby. Quite good minus the amp failure. I feel the MFW performed better on HT use than for music. Home theater use, I would rate it a 7.5 over 10. Music....I would rate it a 6 over 10...especially for rap music. But I am very limited on space so I couldn't place that subwoofer where I need to maximized its output. I can't feel the bass like my 2 JL Audio car subwoofers but good enough.

Well i would still recommend one SVS PB10NSD

If you are really strapped for cash you can try this subwoofer. I havent heard much negative reviews on it. You could even get two of these for $500

http://www.onecall.com/ProductDetails.aspx?id=89775

They weigh an incredible 60lbs for such a small enclosure and have a piano gloss finish.

lol.... yeah she wasnt too happy when my center channel showed up... "ualready have one of those,,,why do u need another one "
try explaining timbre match with someone who doesnt care
Never take that approach to explaining your desire for a new audio piece. Saying you got a great deal. And speakers are to you like furniture/clothes/purses etc are to her. My Fiancee knows my passion is this hobby and trusts me to not be stupid about it.

I highly suggest you consider even a single Kappa Build.

Seriously you can hire a cabinet maker to build the cabinet and you can use the cheaper 12.1 instead of the VQ and get similar response.

a PB10 vs a Perfect Build or even 2 PB10s aren't even competitive.

For a single sub you could even use an Bridged Behringer A500 and pair it with a 20hz highpass filter. for around 200.

For any sub project you should never try to sneak something so large past your wife. I suggest you figure out an intelligent way to let her know you want to upgrade the sub at some point. Be patient and take your time. Most women will tolerate 1 sub, but 2 is stretching it.

Your living room size can give us an idea of what will work.

My current room can actually be filled by a Dayton 10" or 12"

But it's small.

I'm not sure that the A500 is stable at 4ohms bridged. The EP1500 can be found for ~$200 though, probably less if you find a good deal on a used one.

Edit: 2 available for $175

Most of the time a Kappa is above 6 ohms actually so you would probably be ok. It hits 4 ohm at around 100hz. However 175 for an ep 1500 is very nice. I will have to keep my eyes peeled. That was a steal for the price. ep1500 is a very nice amp,
