I would consider starting here. This 5.1 setup can be bad for less than 2k or even less if you went with bookshelf speakers and used a bookshelf speaker for the center channel. Not one single bose system will come close.
If you must stay small(you did say you can do towers) the NHT super zero is about as good as you can get, but are still small and will have less output, and punch but will overall sound good.
This might the best pkg he will find for under $2k.

I can vouch for the R5bi personally...I have them as surrounds, but I ran them for a 20 hrs or so as mains just to get them some work in...good little speakers...with a sub, that linked pkg will certainly beat out a Bose system.

That RBH setup looks good! Spoke with the wife she does like to satellite speaker look, wrking on changing that. With that said I seen the RBH CTx 5.1, Klipsch quintet and the paradigm 100 theatre system. Thoughts?

Wife...yep...Bose figured that out a long time ago. You're paddling up stream my friend.

HT kits like these get you an HT system for a low price but if you like movies/music, after awhile you're going to want to upgrade...sooner rather than later. What really makes HT is the bass and that's where these type systems let you down the most.

If it were me, I wouldn't worry about a specific center channel speaker...I would get 5 R5bi speakers and use one as the center channel and a quality sub.

Paradigm makes a quality sub, but the price for their quality sub would eat up your entire budget. You will get the best performance for the dollar spent direct sale companies like HSU, SVS, PSA. Check out the ported subs on their sites.

Five RBH R5bi + HSU vtf 2 mk5 will run you $1,166.5 shipped. If you can swing the larger vtf3 mk5 sub, I would do it for another $290 shippped.

That system (with either sub, but especially the larger one) will probably keep you content for several years.

OK, I think I somewhat narrowed it down Please take a look at my combos and et me know what you think and feel free to suggest other options as well: And to keep in mind I have a Onkyo TX N636 receiver

Which would give me great sound, now for #2-4 I was looking at either the Wharfedale 10.CM, SVS Center, Elac C5 or RBH R56CIB for a great center channel.......

#1 - 5 of these and a sub - https://rbhsound.com/e3c.php
#2 - Pair of Elac B6 or B5 and my current JBL satellites for the back surrounds

#3 - Pair of SVS Prime and current JBL satellites for the rear - https://www.amazon.com/SVS-Prime-Bookshelf-Black-Ash/dp/B00PASUMV4/ref=sr_1_15?ie=UTF8&qid=1501023474&sr=8-15&keywords=SVS+audio

#4 - Pair of Wharfedale Diamond 10.2 and my JBL satellites for the rear surround -

I'd start with number three simply due to the free in-home trial (including round-trip shipping) SVS offers, atho I suppose with Amazon you could perhaps essentially achieve the same thing. Haven't been impressed by comments about Elac, but haven't heard any, and haven't heard a Wharfedale in ages. Using your JBL for surrounds sounds fine, tho. They should all be better than bose.

I prefer three of the same speaker across the front if possible, or if you must have a horizontal one, from the same line of speakers as L/R.
