New Oppo Digital DV981HD

I though the AH banner add looked suspicious. Looks like the new Oppo Digital DV981HD is available for sale on their web site.
http://www.oppodigital.com/dv981hd/index.html

The new player is black and adds SACD and 1080P upconversion for $230. However, it doesn't have a component video output or 480i over HDMI like the entry level DV970.

I just noticed this player, seems pretty nice. Too bad my tv doesn't do 1080p, otherwise I might be interested in it.

I've been holding off buying the 971 till this unit came out. My projector is 720P so the 971 fit my needs. Maybe now it will come down in price.

Too bad it's only HDMI 1.1 and not 1.2. It would've been nice to be able to output SACD through HDMI. That's the only con I can see so far though.

yea...old news since I knew it was in the making this past summer. All you have to do is contact companies and ask questions about new stuff. They use to be all secretive but not these days. If it is so...they'll tell you.

I'm not too thrilled that it's geared for 1080 folks. How about audio quality? improved or not? we'll see or should I say hear about it soon.

I called OPPO on Friday about this unit. I was told that it is indeed HDMI 1.2. The guy may have been mistaken, but that's what he told me. I ordered one on Friday night:) Also, if you look at the post above, it says in the specs "High res multi channel digital audio output through HDMI supporting CD, DVD-Audio, SACD, Dolby Digital and DTS soundtracks."

The manual states that it is HDMI 1.1 and that SACD is converted to multi-channel PCM.

Loser,
I saw the 971 on b-stock a couple times for $160 on the oppo site. If that doesn't work, maybe you can take one off the hands of someone to wants to "upgrade" to the black case.

Are all receivers with HDMI 1.1 expected to correctly apply bass management (and room equalization, if applicable) to the multi-channel PCM input via HDMI ?

Is the Oppo a good DVD/CD player when compared to say the Denon 3910s etc. I've been hearing things about these units but had no info on the units? If so what makes them so special? If the unit is quality then I can save myself some cheddar and use the savings to get some more amps.
