They should be out in March according to B&H Photo. I'm guessing they sport the new HDMI 1.3 inputs, but I can't find any info on this.

they did; the volume knob is black now, and the power button is horizontal rather than vertical. :D

I don't like the cheap volume knobs on those. I liked the style right before this one, it was very much similar to the esoteric Lexicon division.

max 70 watts/channel:confused:

70 watts rms (Root mean square) is an average, and a highly debated one at that. You probably listen to music/movies at 5 watts continuous - possibly 10 watts during a party. What you are interested in is dynamic peaks - the ability to handle quick bursts of sound. The size of the AVR's capacitors, heat sinks and a beefy power supply will make more of a difference than a simple watts/channel rating. Next time you're in BB/CC, try lifting your higher end units compared to the less expensive ones. You'll quickly notice where the beef is in cheaply made units. The heavier units will sport heavy duty power supplies as well as larger heat sinks to handle the heat produced when the amp section is pushed. Harman Kardon units are fine even though they rate their amp sections lower than the competition.

Seriously, I have no life.

I bet it is less:p I rarely see 1 watts on a center channel at friends and it is plenty loud. Not talking LFE, but the speaker is set to large.

Yes, thicker face plates, of SS or lead. :D Just kidding.

I have been using this amplifier the size of my palm for the past few hours (this also came from PC speakers, very generic stuff). The power consumption is a mere 24 watts (ac-adapter), it uses a integrated circuit, and the circuit board is littered with cheap small capacitors. I bet this thing can only do around 2 watts RMS per channel. The thing makes my speakers sound boomy for some reason, haven't figured that one out yet.

If they change their appearance, I might take an interest. I don't like the current approach.

Let me use another common phrase that may hold more meaning for you: 'You can polish a turd, but it's still a turd'.

No love around here for the HK? When I was researching for a under $500 receiver I got a lot of recommendations for the Harman Kardons. Is there obvious faults with them or is more of a preference thing?

It's a personal preference thing. The last few comments were in regard to the color styling, which apparently many here don't care for (myself included).

Ah, just wondering if I was in the dark on something. I wasn't sure about the looks myself when I first got it but I got a heck of deal on mine from a member here, now all my components are silver.

I love the styling of the HK's although I prefer them before this change slightly more. I was actually "this" close to buying one until I read up on the Yamaha RX-V659 here and elsewhere and just bought the Yamaha last week. I also went with a pair of Primus 360's at the same time and couldn't be happier with the detailed sound I'm getting out of these pieces so far.

My last "stereo" was a 1983 or so Yamaha R-3 receiver and a pair of Infinity SM-100's which served me well for the last 20 something years until the woofer surrounds rotted out. Then I was using a pair of Advent "smaller" speakers that I repaired the surrounds on and sound surprisingly good for budget speaks from 1973! (way to go Henry!) I will probably use them as rears for a while now. So now I'm back to Yamaha and Infinity although totally by accident.

Oh yeah, I'm new here so I'd like to say Hi to everyone and mucho thanks for your (unknowingly) steering me towards my current setup, I had no idea that such musicality was available at these prices or I probably would have bought new gear sooner. I'm also a musician so I really appreciate being able to hear ALL the detail at home, especially when trying to figure out tricky guitar parts on a recording. As a guitar player I usually care about distortion in amps and speakers, except I usually want MORE! LOL.

So hello everyone and thanks again! :)
