I like this style, closely resembles the Lexicon. It is basic and clean.

Edit: I changed the image, the other one was to large.:rolleyes:

I don't have any idea where in their model lineup that one fell, but it looks exactly like my 225. I hope I can get at least a few more years out of it before I have to consider upgrading.

I find that annoying in a dark room and yes you can dim it or shut if off but that has to be done every time you turn on the receiver as it is not a persistent setting.

I can't say why they are doing it, but I will say this; every time I ask a freind that is not into A/V which component they like better, they always say 'the silver one', and when they are shown one with a bright blue light, they always point to it and say 'I like that'.
yes I find a blue LED cool now and then, but I perfer not to have equipment that has them, because it is annoying.

exactly! if it's chromed with blue lights it becomes the coolst thing in the world. :rolleyes:

I actually like the look of that last black one better as well, now that I see the LEDs and styling.

I don't have a lot of AV equipment, so it isn't like I have a room for them or a special cabinent. If I need to have a giant peice of equipment sitting out in my loft I want it to look sharp. I don't want a giant black box.

:)

Who really cares how it looks, it is the performance that matters.

Every corporation puts their own spin on things,could it be possible that the lower cost Harman Kardon line was the main competition at best buy for their in house brand of Insignia gear,a $200 Insignia reciever would look like a childs toy next to a $300 HK reciever.

My HK is a 2nd hand refurb unit that performs and looks like new. I'm a now a firm believer in buying used because of it.


...and I have my harmony programed to turn off the "blue light" when we watch a movie so that isn't an issue for me.

You are smart to be wary of wallmart,i have some experience in dealing with wallmarts policy of "target pricing",what wallmart does is a cost analisis on what ever they are going to spend money on then figures out the suppliers profit margin,then they cut a large portion (if not 100%) of the suppliers profit margin out of the picture & submit a target price that they are willing to pay to the supplier,these are large percentages.

When blue prints hit the dodge reports office & my company is invited to bid on a wallmart project we just throw some fast numbers together because we know from experience that the first round of bids will be rejected by wallmart as all being too high (back to the drawing board) they will keep doing this until they meet their target price,on small wallmart projects they will tell you what they are willing to pay,if you cant do it for their price then seeya,they will endlessly search until they find a contractor to do the project for peanuts,the worst part is that the next fiscal year they will expect every contractor/supplier to beat the previous years pricing.

I am leary of any brand/model that is made exclusively for wallmart but if the model has a bunch of other retailers selling that model i really dont worry about it .

I think that's totally cool. I've had good experiences with other refurbed products and will do it again when my budget is tight and I want to maximize bang for my buck. I look foreward to your review, especially because I started this whole audio upgrade odyssey because I saw an 80 watt HK for sale at $199 and thought 'what the hell'... Little did I know then that I'd spend over $700 bucks and that doesn't count the Primus 150's I have on the way for surrounds.

And I thought I left this whole cool stereo thing behind back in my 20's...:rolleyes:

While not really a review, I'll just say that I've been thrilled with my refurbed HK AVR-435 that I bought through the e-bay store. I've had it hooked up to my X-series 5.1 system and oppo -971 for several months now. It delivers more than enough power to my speakers, I haven't even taken it all the way to 0 on the volume.

I haven't had a single problem with it, no locking up or any other problems people had mentioned over on AVS. Setup was really simple, EZset was just that...easy.

Overall I couldn't be happier with mine. Looks nice (to me and that's what matters), sounds nice (to all that have heard it), and it's been very reliable.

I bought a refurbed AVR240 and I've been happy as a clam for the past 9 months.
