Well I blew my budget out of the water. Which is pretty much what I always do lol.
I ended up going with the svs prime towers with the matching center and satellites. I had another discussion to make tho, because I wanted to further upgrade the package with either the ultra surround speakers in place of the prime satellites. I really like the idea of two independent sets of speakers in each unit. My other upgrade option was adding a sub to the package and sticking with the prime satellites.
In the end I decided to go with the sub. And I think I’ll be more rewarded then option “A”
At the end of the day if I’m not happy with them I can return them and start over
Thanks to everyone for their input! I will definitely post a review once I get things set up and get some time in front of them

that aside, if i'm reading you correctly, i think you will feel better payoff starting 5.1 rather than 7.0. watching movies, listening to music. when you get set up well, that sub will elevate everything. and another set of surrounds... well thats right around the corner. even if its 6 mos. away. ;)

Yes sir. Towers, center and satellites. Bases on the room size SVS recommend I go with a sealed sub rather than the ported one.
I went with the sb1000. All speakers in piano black

Happy for you Graph. Enjoy the new kit. Uprgade to 7.1 when ready, and get that second sub tomorrow. ;)

I'm using a small underpowered sub for my room, and it's pretty solid with my Marantz at the helm. I'm eager to get my whole kit redone, but even the old Onkyo HTIB speakers are holding their own in the short term. Just a few more weeks before I make the decision!

Enjoy

My thought process has got me pretty far outside the box already, looking at Monitor Audio for example. Reputable company and solid speakers by all accounts, just not super well known necessarily. As I work my way through some shops in the next couple weeks with my test music, I think I'll figure out pretty fast whats in the pipe I've been smokin'. ;) Figuratively, that is. But seriously, I've waited a long time to do this, and I've been saving for years so I can do it right. *fingers crossed.

Cheers, Graph!
