3800BDCI setup questions

I hope this is the right place for setup questions.

I just received my Denon 3800BDCI from ListenUp to replace my Panasonic DMP-BD55 Bluray player. The Denon manual is not so great. I have not been able to find the answers I need by searching this and other forums, so here goes.

I have a McIntosh MX136 pre/pro. It accepts only video via HDMI. Audio must be passed via 5.1 analog connections. I have the 3800BDCI HDMI out and HDMI out from the Comcast cable box going to the MX136. I have a HDMI from the the MX136 going to a Panansonic 58" 850U plasma HDTV which can handle 1080P24. All HDMI cables are top of the line Monster 1.3. I did not make any changes to the MX136 settings and simply moved the cables from the Panny Bluray player to the same outputs on the 3800BDCI. Also, my Panny Bluray player did ouput 1080P24 to my gear.

I connected 5.1 analog cables from the 3800BDCI outs to the MX136 analog 5.1 in's. Pre/pro audio outs go to McIntosh 402 and 205 amps and on to B&W 800series speakers all around via high end Audioquest interconnect and speaker cables.

Here's the problem and the question: I cannot get the 3800BDCI to set to 1080P24. Does anyone have a link to the proper audio and video settings for the 3800BDCI compatible with my equipment to insure I'm getting True HD Dolby, DTS MA, and 1080P24 video? Or, does anyone have a set of recommended audio and video settings for the 3800BDCI to accomplish my goals?

Thanks for any help,

Keith

I have the 3800BDCI. I've used HDMI for Video only + 5.1 Analog Output for TrueHD/DTS-HD before.

The 1080p is set in the Video Setup. It's been a while, but I remember setting the Video Resolution to Automatic. When it senses that your Display (TV) can truely accept 1080p, it will automatically set to 1080p. If it senses that your TV can only truely accept 1080i, it will automatically set to 1080i.

When I was using my previous Mitsubishi TV (which claims 1080p), the Denon BD would set to 1080i. I found out that the TV truely does not accept 1080p; it only accepts 1080i and upscales it to 1080p.

But with my TRUE 1080p Mitsubishi TV, the Denon now sets to 1080p automatically.

For Audio, you set under the Audio Setup. I can't remember exactly, but I know it's not BITSTREAM. It should be set to PCM or something like that.

HDMI Video Resolution – 1080p24 or Auto
I/P Direct – On
See 3rd note on pg. 32 – IOW it’ll only output the 1080p/24 signal if the disk is capable.

The unit defaults to multi-channel for the 7.1 outputs but you need to set up the speakers and turn off the rears. It automatically decodes the setting you select on the disk menu.
