I see that you chose your topic title carefully (or accidentally). "Magic" being properties that cannot be explained by any known science, "Magical" being just really good or a good experience.
You can look up any existing patent if you are curious as to the magic employed in this case but will probably have to wait until it's granted, and if it's a USPTO patent application, well, they allow almost anything (because it's funded by patent fees, so no grant, no money to fund the USPTO).
"Patent Pending" is what people put on stuff to prevent copying because any copy would be ruled a violation of the patent as it arrived after the first application. So, no patent has been granted (yet).
WRT cable markings for direction, there are many forms of shielded interconnect that have the shield tied to ground at one end only. These are definitely directional and should have the tied end of the shield at the source; alternately use the preamp as the central ground.
If the crystal structure or the cable dielectric is formed/healed by current, direction may play a role. Obviously the 'all cable sounds the same" school won't agree, but there are those who offer theories as to why this might be (Professor Malcolm Hawkesford, Uof Essex UK, offers up some possible examples).
Finally even if there may be no effective reason, using directional arrows helps with cable clutter, preventing inputs inadvertently connected to outputs, and vice versa. It's just $2 worth of custom printed heat shrink; and if dressed (techflex) you have to use something there anyway. Cable manufacturers will mark cable with whatever you want on the bare cable jacket, but that means an order of the minimum spool size, usually 10,000 feet.
