I was looking into Netflix on the web. Those of you who have it - how many movies do you watch monthly. They have a $14.99 plan for 2 dvd's at a time. Is the turn around really 1 business day? I don't believe that. I would assume that equates to about 4-5 days by the time you put it in the mailbox and receive the next two. Especially coming from Ca. to Ohio.

Looking for some rants and raves here. Clint, I know you use the service. How about competition - anything else out there better?
LOVE IT!!

I've been a member for something like 5 years, and having a distro center in Minneapolis rocks! Send one out on Tuesday, get one back on Thursday. About 75% of our average of about 8 - 10 DVDs/month is for watching old TV series. Maybe 1 disc/year has been unplayable and they always send a replacement the same day we report it.

the intersting thing with BB is the fact that you can get coupons for free B&M rentals as well. Like 2 a month. Now I might use them if I can't get something sent to me right away via their web, or there's a waiting list... but I don't really get it. Why rent something from their B&M storefront for 'free' when you can simply queue it up on their website...

But just something "added" to give more value to BB's 3 at a time plan.

I personally used Netflix a number of years ago, and I'm currently using Blockbuster... both seem about the same... *shrug*

Funny thing, however I only recall that happening one time. Because I check when movies arrive.

Anyhow, Netflix is worth it IMO....

( ok,i will admit bias towards self professed 'family friendly' retailers )
Not sure what you mean by "family friendly." THey did let my 5-year-old use the employee restroom. That's pretty friendly.

Funny, I have nothing against BB, but they never let me use the RR.
However, I don't think I am a kid
That is still up for discussion...

Family Friendly = no Rated X etc movies...
That would make Netflix family friendly also :)

eh...x rated movies are hardly what i was referring to when i mentioned 'family friendly'. Thats what the local adult stores are for. I'm referring to the fact that family friendly, in most cases, means an extremely poor selection of foreign and independent movies in all genres....porn has nothing to do with it.

Point taken. Though when Blockbuster uses the term that is what they are talking about.

What I find that is ironic, we have a chain called Family Video in Missouri, and they do in fact have that special 18 & up door in the rear of the store at "Family Video" what kind of family life are they trying to portray

OK. I'm thinking of switching to Netflix. Mainly because we're on the Blockbuster plan and I thought it would help me SAVE money, but everytime we go in the store everyone wants candy, popcorn, Yugioh cards, etc. So we're actually spending MORE.

So, help me out here. How exactly does NetFlix work? It sounds like you make a list of a gazillion movies you want to see and then they send whatever they feel like from that list?

So unlike Blockbuster where I can go in and rent exactly the movie I'm in the mood for, Netflix will send me whatever is available on my list regardless of what my movie mood is?

Or can I designate move genres? If I'm on the 3-at-a-time plan can I say I want one kid's movie, one chick flick and one horror movie?

99% of the time you will recieve the movie in the order you have them. So Make a list of about 30 and you will get movies 1-2-3. You can change the order you want movies at any time. Movies that are about to be released it is a good idea to keep at the top of your list. They will go to next movie on list until movie is released.

Ah. Smaller lists. Gotcha.

And at $17.95 for 3 movies, it's cheaper than Blockbuster's $24.95 for 2 movies.

The only time you won't get your #1 movie is if all their copies are out. It seems that this usually only happens with big underground hits when they're first released. They pretty much stock enough of the "blockbusters" to keep everyone happy, but they might not be able to get enough copies of the indie flix, so you'll have to wait a week or two for people to send theirs back.

Here's the cool trick you'd figure out on your own after a few months or a couple years...

If you want to get a new release on the first day, put it at the top of your list ansend back your movies on Friday and/or Saturday so they arrive at Netflix on Monday morning. Like Amazon, they ship out early so you'll actuallly get it on the same day it hits the store shelves.

My wife has us registered to both, so we are constantly getting movies from netflex and blockbuster. i think they are equal in quality. what i loved about it is that if you lose a movie you can blame it on the mail. it happened to us, and we didn't have to pay for it. that is nice...

the kind of family life that sends the kids to bed early on a friday night so mommy and daddy can get busy on producing another little consumer !

actually, now that i think of it..that truly is a 'family' video store...a little something for the kids and adults.

I wouldn't be to confused about it..its all very simple. People have various tastes and a truly capitalist company will take advantage of that...

my 2 cents

Netflix rocks!-only one unwatchable movie (due to disc quality) in almost 12 months...we're in the Seacoast area of NH & the distribution center is in southern NH (Manchester)...usually a 3 day turnaround...we're thinking of upping our plan to the next level for the winter months...also we have a six year old that the volume of family/childen's movies is great.
When Blockbuster first came online the new release movies were ALWAY'S on a waiting list...rarely happens w/Netflix!-the 2 free movies a month was ok & did come in handy sometimes but only when the new release's were not available to mail & then the local store was a disaster zone w/ inept service...add on INCREASED monthly fee's from Blockbuster prices & now the price of gas & Netflix win's hands down

Can't say enough good things to say about Netflix

I fully take advantage of their large selection, reviews, ratings and recomendations. I will never buy my movies at the video store again except when time critical. They have hubs scattered all over the US. 2 days is all it takes to get the replacement. Those little red envelopes are now a part of my life. Been a member 2+ years.
