Hello, pretty new to this forum and the AV/Hi-Fi hobby in general. And i have a dilemma. My system consists of a Denon AVR3808, 2x Canton CD220 rears, 2x CD250 fronts and another CD250 for the mid channel. Now i want to replace my front channels for some bigger speakers for a better stereo, a.e tower speakers, and im planning to bi-amp the fronts. What i was wondering was:

1.With a pair of towers for fronts, will i lose the overall home cinema performance or at least some of it?

2.Isnt it true that all the speakers in my system are recommended to be from the same brand and as similar in character as the rest of my setup ?

3.I have a very small room. Is there any general rule on the speaker design and/or layout that will work in smaller rooms ?

4.Any tower speakers you can recommend that should work well with the rest of my system ? (At the moment i have my eye on Canton Karat 770DC, Chrono 507 or Ergo 607) The speaker brands i have access to are: Canton, Dynaudio, JBL, Dali and Paradigm.

Some help will be greatly appreciated.

P.S. appologize for any grammar or spelling errors, english is not my main language.

Why are you wanting to "bi amp"? And unless you have an active crossover, more than likely you will degrade the sound instead of improving it.

No you will not lose any performance using towers as your mains. Towers work just fine in home theater applications.

Yes it is recommended that all speakers be identical, or from the same speaker family.

IMO you should stay in the Canton CD series. Maybe the CD300. But I'm not sure how much of a difference it will add to your HT experience.

If you choose to purchase from another Canton series, or another manufacturer. I recommend you purchase the matching center channel also. Keep your front 3 speakers L/C/R from the same speaker family.

1.) No performance loss by going to towers. Usually towers are able o play louder then their bookshelf brethren.

2.) That depends which speakers you are replacing. For your particular needs, they should ideally match the series you are using now; ie if that series of Canton speakers makes towers, get them from that and not get towers from another series from Canton. If you were replacing the surrounds, the only time you would need to match is for multichannel music. But for HT applications the surrounds can be of a different make all together and you would be OK. Long story short, for HT left, center, right speakers need to come from the same series of a speaker, the surrounds not necessairly so. For multichannel music, all should from the same series.

3.) How big is your room?

4.) Tower recommendations is keep it in the same series that your center channel speaker is from.

Good luck :)
