What was pointed out by the others were merely alternatives and corrects one at that. The original poster may not have even thought of that. Nobody told him he had to do it that way, just some of the drawbacks he may encounter by taking them home via suit case.

Questions that spring to mind by his method are these;
a.) Do all speakere mentioned have cross border warranties?
b.) If A is true, then is he gonna remove the packaging from the speakers and simply stick them in his luggage because boxes and packing adds weight and bulk.
c.) If he does remove the packaging, how protected are his purchases going to be? You know how well luggage is treated.. *NOT*

We have every right to list possible pro's and con's. You need to rethink where you stand on this.
If you go back and read it, the tone of the posts is quite rude. Members seeking help should not be treated like that.

I think you've got it backwards Sheep. Yes, if you go back and read the post, there was rudeness, first exacted by the thread starter. And I'll agree with you that members, even nonmembers, should not be addressed like that.

The original poster overreacted and is more at fault than anything else I've read here. There was some decent advice before he got to the "that makes no sense" responses.

No one should treat one another rudley. maybe he was just having an off day and isn't usually like this.

I really like the Ascend 170SE speakers, but I'm a little confused how you think these will fit in a suitcase.

(sorry for the bad pic, my camera is dying)

The box they came in to protect them was quite large . I wouldn't put any speaker in a suitcase without the foam that they orignally shipped it. I'm not sure I would do it even then. They can easily be damaged, and you wouldn't have any insurance on them.

But, if you really want to do this, I don't think you can do any better for the $$ than the Ascends 170SE. I've heard good things about the XL-S speakers. I've had the SVS speakers in my house, and while they were good for $200, I wasn't as impressed as most and they weren't my first choice.

if you truly are looking for a complete 5 speaker set to take on a flight, I would suggest the Veldoyne CHT Front Row system that is selling on close out for $199. They come all five boxed together in one box that will defintatley get you into any trouble at the airport. They are very well built and fairly heavy. They were reviewed a few years ago when they came out and were considered a good value for $799. Now for $199 they are a great buy. They are some pretty impressive little performers. I bought a set for my downstairs system, but I liked them so much I kept them in my main theater. They sound better than my dual 5 1/4 2 way mains. Granted my old mains weren't anywhere near the the best or even good, but the difference was night and day. You can check out the Velodyne Deco system as they have identical drivers as the CHT system. they have been reviewed several times. The CHT's with have better sound due to a much better cabinet, that is significantly larger than the tiny Deco's. They are only available in grey or white though. the grey is more like a dark charcoal, I like mine. Small + inexpensive + great build quality + great sound = one heck of a deal in the CHT Front Rows. Good luck with whatever you decide.
