What's your budget? Room size only has something to do with it when considering what speaker/sub setup you have....but square rooms have issues acoustically....

well $300 tops but id like to spend less. the room is square. also looking at a subwoofer and speakers, i have several in mind. just wanted to get the avr out of the way

It's best considered as a whole system but I'd shop at accessories4less.com for a receiver. Amp requirements somewhat depend on the speakers, though. Get the speakers decided on first is best.

i scored a brand new denon x3300 for $498 from frys electronics.

much more than i wanted to spend for such a small room, i might return it

That's a very good price for a respectable receiver. It's a keeper, imo.

i only recommend what i have owned or heard in person. here is my opinion.

my harman kardon avr 3600 goes for around $200 on ebay. it is a very good avr with many options for the price and it looks cool.

audioholics has a short review of it on youtube.

it has EzSet/EQ with good results compared to audyssey.

very customizable for each input and speakers.

it has plenty of power for my room size (15d 17w 10h) but it also has pre-outs for amps if you wish. it supplies enough power for my speakers plus i don't have 4 solid walls. i have 3 open double doorways.

not an amazing set up but it suits my needs.
