Hi,
I know nothing about sound equipments and need to buy one that it is not too expensive (no more than $300.00) and that it is portable.

Ok, I have an ipod touch where I save all my music. I teach dance fitness usually indoors and sometimes outdoors. I am not savvy to use something complex but need to have a great loud sound. What do you recommend?

I was thinking about buying a fender passport 150 (expensive) or a Roland CM-30 cube monitor.

Please help!!!!

pardon my ignorance

Thanks for your advice. One question and please, excuse my ignorance.
How do I connect my ipod to the speaker? Is there any volume control in the speaker?

Behringer, famous to ripping of other people designs and sell them cheaper  made this product - perfect for your budget:

Looks to me like complete rip off from fender, quality my vary, but at 75w/channel I can guarantee they are real watts (not Chinese PMPO watts), this system is going to be very loud indoor and moderately loud outdoor if audience not spread too far.

Some Behringer creations are really good, some merely ok, depends how well they were able reverse engineer the source product. I have Behringer MS16 active monitors - 8W/channel - they can be very loud in my small office, but still not distorting sound.

Roland - booo - it's mono only - more of Guitar amp than PA system.

If you want something small and portable that doesn't need to be plugged in, look into the Roland Micro Cube. I think it has a stereo input for an iPod, a mic input and it will sum to mono. It's not much money and they make a slightly larger version. Also, look into the Fender G-DEC amps.
