Do you know why some medical communities question what Taubes report in his book? It's because he explains how some medical associations are crooked, and promote inexact facts about food.

As examples of their dishonesty, the American Cardiologists Association are proclaiming that saturated fats are causing heart disease, and have to be avoided. That is false, our ancestors were eating good saturated fats and cardiac problems did not exist then. A lot of cardiologists are telling us to avoid good food. Another example of their dishonesty is that in the 1980's, they reduced the maximum normal total cholesterol limit from 240 to 190, you know what for? It's to sell more statins which bring profits of billions of dollars annually only in the US! Some even started to test cholesterol levels on children in a way to sell more statins. Many of those cardiologists are on pharmaceutical companies' payroll. I'm not inventing this, that was reported even by some honest physicians. Money rules!

McDonalds started selling hamburgers and french fries in 1940. Watch what happens with cardio vascular disease as a leading cause of death starting around then:
Then again, Sony started up after WWII so maybe heart disease is caused by Sony products? [sarcasm]

As hygiene and water purification plants across the US proliferated many diseases dwindled off and people started living much longer so diseases which take time to develop (like clogged arteries and some cancers) may appear to have "grown" but its largely that we live longer now.

I just figured out what causes obesity so I think I'll right a book about it. It's proximity to the Mississippi river:

Seriously, I have no life.
The cheap stuff. ;) Actually I have a large 45 oz. Blue Bonnet in the fridge that last a long time, for corn on the cob, not on toast, just jam. Some bread or roll. Wife uses her butter, but has to be outside so it can be spread. More stuff on the counter.
You use margarine?
Referring to the Good Calories, Bad Calories book, Dr Andrew Weil, a well known American physician, said that it is a very important book.
I would blame the FDA's idiotic and upside-down Food Pyramid and GMO, high Fructose Corn Syrup, welfare approval of bad foods and school lunch programs. Another big cause is lack of activity- kids don't need to sit for most of the day and when they do thata, they certainly don't need snack foods and sugary soft drinks.

Her butter won't spread at room temperature?

I doubt people were going to McDonalds for three meals a day, ordering their big breakfast with a large Coke (why would someone actually order that?) or ordering a family-sized bag full of their stuff. They didn't have double-cheeseburgers or double quarter poinders, either. People tended to eat a lot less until the 1960s and they were much more active. Most made their meals from ingredients, rather than going to the few fast food places.

I have watched several videos of Europeans who came to the US for the World Cup and most commented on portion size when they ordered food.

I never said that but butter should not be kept at room temperature, unless you use a French butter crock which you can get from Amazon. It keeps butter protected from oxidation with water.
