dammit - well I went on this morning to buy it and they're sold out of the 707! Just my luck

So now I'm back to square one looking at HTiBs.

Yes 6th avenue is sold out online. I went into the store, and they said the lowest they would go after looking online was $600.
Everywhere I look say $600
Which is a bit much if I'm getting JUST the receiver.

Still $499 direct from Amazon, though. It says that it ships in 1-2 months, but I often see things like that go back into stock within a couple of days. You'd need to select them from the list of merchants off to the right, though, because they won't come up as the primary source when they aren't in stock.

You'd only get that price if you picked Amazon as the seller. You can wait...but the price might go up to $600 like everywhere else.

You can double check on their site, but I believe that you aren't charged until it ships. If so, you could order it now and then cancel it later if you find something that you like better before it ships.

Yeah, that shipping estimate is just the 1-2 months that they stated. If they come in earlier, it'll ship then. I ordered some blu-rays last month that were supposed to take a couple of weeks to ship, and they shipped within a couple of days. There were some things a couple of years ago that I didn't order from Amazon because they said "1-2 months," but then they came back into stock later that day after I had already ordered from somewhere else that cost more! That's not to say that the Onkyo will ship any sooner - but there certainly is a precedent.

Yeah, I have a stack of blu-rays like Public Enemies and Inglorious Basterds that I CANNOT wait to try. But, I want the 5.1 before I watch em.
