Need a New Sound System 5.1 or 7.1

Oh, Onkyo isn't a bad brand or anything. I figure that it wouldn't make Gene's pick for receiver of the year if it was. There are two primary reasons that I personally am not a fan: (1) they run hot, and (2) I don't like how they look. That's all.

I like Pioneer Elite receivers. I used to like the 1000-series Pioneer receivers, but starting with this year's 1019, they seem to have stepped those down in quality.

I don't know if you saw my edit in the other post, but the 707 is $470 at 6th Avenue Electronics.
oo $30 more off the price tag :D

One last question before I go off and buy that receiver and the cable converters.
How would this work now with the converters? I have 3 cables coming from the Logitech sub.
The 1st green is the front.
The 2nd Black is for the rear speakers.
The 3rd orange is for the Center and I believe the sub as well.

Is this diagram correct?

Adam likes his receivers like his women sleek and sexy:D:D
But I can certainly understand being attracted to something that is a bit plain on the outside but that gets smoking hot on the inside once it's turned on.

I'm referring to Onkyo's, of course... :D

XD

Generally I'm a big person on aesthetics as well but the reciever would be placed under my desk along with my cable box so it wouldn't be seen especially with my computer rig on top of the desk.

You'll likely need to experiment with which RCA jack represents the left and which one the right speaker for the front and rears, and similarly for which is the center channel and which is the sub. It's not difficult, though.
Figured as much. Simple test tones can fix that.

Onkyos do run hot and need lots of room around and above to breath but being the disappointed owner of a Pioneer 1014 I'll never buy another non-Elite series Pioneer. My TX-SR606 will flat blow the doors off my old 1014.

OP I have no idea how you'll do the center because I don't know how it hooks up now. But using the adapters Adam found you should be able to plug it in the same way you did on your sound card.

On a serious note, you'll want to make sure that the receiver has enough air flow for ventilation. Those Onkyos really do run hot.

Yeah I hear ya. The cabinet which my parents have their Onkyo is like walking into a furnace. Especially with the camera DVR system, the cable box and the radio/music center running almost 24/7 stacked up ontop of each other XD
I've tried to tell them it isn't healthy for the equipment. But what can you do. Stubborn parents.

Nono.
It's not RCA - looks it, but its a toslink input.

Thats how my PS3, TV, and 360 connect to my PC. Sadly, that form of connection doesn't allow surround sound which is why I'm in the position I am in. I've scoured the internet for an alternative method and have found nothing.

The card probably allows you to use a mini-toslink connector in that port. Some sound cards allow this feature, albeit it's kind of redundant.

Who told you!? Friggen Avia can't keep their mouth shut....

roflmao - I may not be the most knowledgeable person when it comes to this stuff but I'm not that stupid. :p
That would be like the guy who snapped off the PCI pins because it wouldn't fit in the incorrect slot. XD

really? How in the world does that work? XD
It can output to both a coax RCA connector or an optical cable. How it works....no idea. The new macbooks also have that feature, except they output to mini toslink and 3.5mm.

The wonders of technology.
