Need a center channel speaker

I know this is a pretty broad question, but I am looking for some recommendations for a center channel speaker. I would like to keep it under $200.00 if possible. My mains are Krix bookshelfs with 5" woofers in them. If you never heard of them don't be suprised. They are made in Australia, and I believe the company I work for is the only dealer in the US. I keep reading great reviews about Fluance's center channel speaker and am very intruiged. Escpecially for $70.00. Any thoughts on the Fluance or any other speakers? Thanks to all those who reply.

That would be nice, but that speaker is not cheap. If I could afford it I certainly would jump on that, but it is not feasable right now. Thanks though.

And the winner is????????????????

Hey Fatroz and welcome to the forums. You will probably be almost overwhelmed by the amount of responses you will get pointing you towards the Krix center. The reasoning for this is timbre matching. You want the sound to be the same, say if a helicopter flies from the right across to the left of the screen the sound will transition from the right through to the center then fade into the left speaker and eventually trail off. Now when this happens you want the sound to be the same across the sound field. If you have a different manufacturer’s speaker in the center then it will not "Match" the sound of your left and right. This can be detracting from the experience.

Now that we have gotten that out of the way I will also say that the market is flooded with good center channel speakers in your price range. The list would be too long to list here really. The main thing to keep in mind is to get the most you can for your money. I have said it a lot lately but Circuit-City is clearing out their Infinity stock. I saw the Infinity BetaC250 for like $129.00 the other day which is a phenomenal deal. Let me check....... yep right now it is on-line for the low price of $123.49 after $126.50 in savings. This is a GREAT speaker especially for this price. Now your best bet is to go with matching timbre matched speakers as stated above. But if you are looking for a good center from someone else then you had best jump on this deal as this will not last at Circuit-City. Other manufacturers are Klipsch (check out vanns dot com for some good deals) other Infinities, Yamaha, JBL, Mirage, on, and on, and on.........:D

I'm also going to vote for matching the centre with the main speakers, but a really good speaker that I have heard is the BIC America DV-62CLRS. It is online for about $100-$120. It's a good deal more up here north of the border but for under $200 it is quite possibly the best centre I've heard. I don't think you'll get a perfect match but for around $100 you'd be picking up a heck of a stand in till you come up with the scratch for the matching centre.

thank you

Thanks everyone for the responses. I will look into the Infinity and the BIC. The Microcentrix from Krix is pretty reasonable. I was just afraid it might be too small, but maybe it would be the best match for the speakers I have. I thought I might need a center channel with woofers larger than 4" but maybe not. Hopefully the company I work for will let me take one home to demo with my setup(fingers crossed). I am still open to any input if anyone has any. Thanks everyone.

My first center was a dual 4" with tweeter setup from infinity. It was very lacking but it was matched with floorstanders. Im thinking since your mains only have 5" cones the loss of an inch wont hurt you too much.

You're probably right. I am very happy with my sub. So that will hopefully fill in all the low end I need. Also my mains can handle low end pretty decent for small speakers. I just really need a center for dialogue. I use a ghost channel so all of my voice on movies goes through my mains. It sounds just fine, but when I have the level up so I can hear dialogue, when an action scene kicks in I feel like I am going to blow the roof off, and I am jumping for the remote. Maybe the Krix is my best bet until I can get an entire new, matching:) , system.

Center Channel Speaker

Hi fatroz,

I have a nice Krix Centrix Jarrah finish speaker that I can't use. Had to put surround system plans on indefinite hold. I would sell it for 300.00 + shipping or pick up. Has slight flaw on underneith side, otherwise beautiful.
