Nice progress with your project. Is that a common practice out there to build up on a slab and not have a crawl space ? What are those squares wrapped in poly all about I have never seen anything like that before, really has my attention.
* I believe I answered my own question , just earth so as some areas get deeper concrete to make the footing meet code and the squares just allow enough for the slab depth, right ?
That is how they set-up a tensioned slab the cables give extra rigidity and strength. The squares and deeper areas are to run a second framework of lower cables. In the Oklahoma and Texas area a majority of house are slab based. There are some peer and beam with crawl space if the slope is substantial. Peer and beam usually costs more and so with no basements most houses are slab.

ParadigmDawg -here is where to get drunk

Awesome view, I would like to get drunk out there.

Heck, I would like to get drunk anywhere....
ParadigmDawg,

You hike a mile or so and come up on the Lake from the National Forest side. This is where to have a cold one. (LOL - I plan to keep the cabin icebox stocked with cold brews at 33 degrees)

And special note to Alex --- I located the two closet bars : Only problem both of these are about 10-11 miles away :(
I've seen you drink and post. All I can say is that you probably shouldn't drive.

The live well. I like artificial lures and catch and release so I wouldn't miss it. But I don't drink so I wouldn't care. I'd like to see an optional on board coffee maker though. Can't you just imagine fishing with me? "Dude, we're out of cream and sugar. It's your turn to go for a run."

Very nice secluded area, good luck with the build - I hope it goes very well with little drama, building can be a pain with all the different crews hopefully coming together...

I would hope you would be clearing some of the forest out behind you a bit to make your yard a bit larger - and get even nicer views...

Looks great so far

:)

With a cabin in the forest, you don't clear trees to have something to look at :)

slowly progressing

I will try to upload and post some pictures later. Had an independent 3rd party farming inspection done; got an execellent report. most of the plumbing and wiring is in :)

Found out I have to buy a grinder pump for pressurized sewage connection; it costs more than are really good AVR , $3,600 with installation.

Just looked at all your photos - are you sure those roof rafters will handle a good snow load?:D

What's your square footage? It doesn't look very big from the photos - not that it would be a bad thing. There is far too much wasted space in most new homes these days.

Beautiful spot. I don't think I could handle the heat and humidity though.

It's not the typical image we have of Texas up here. When I think of Texas, I picture semi-arid scrub brush. I guess there's more to the state than is commonly known.

Best of luck to you in your new home!

Insulated, wired, plumb and outside painted

Some progress:

Pass framing inspection with excellent marks. Insulation was installed today. Pumbing and electrical completed.

Plan minimal 2-channel stereo with tuner ( vintage), Power amp ( Vintage Marantz) and Cambridge Audio S30s

Now for the pictures.

house front -- insulated

house back - insulated

P.S. - Blazed a new hiking trail along a dried ( or almost dried) creek bed today for 3 hours.

Texas is a big state so we got a little bit of everything. We even have swamps. ;)

I took a 3 hour nap but you're so much younger. :D

The place looks great. That bass boat is gonna help keep you young.
It's been a long time since I fished and I miss it.
