This is one of my favorite songs and I am just curious how many might recognize it just from the lyrics (it just came on in random play). Note the asterisks are the title of the song.

First verse: Look in the mirror, tell me what do you see? Or can you lie to yourself like you're lying to me. Do you fall asleep real easy feeling justified and right or do you wake up feeling empty in the middle of the night? You wanna think you're different, but you know you never can, you're just another ******** ***.

Hey politician, can't believe a word you say. All mighty media, who's truth'd you sell today? Watchdog of justice, who keeps their eye on you? Con man, song in hand, who you singin' to? The more I get to see, the less I understand. I'm just another ******** ***.

Last verse: Once I thought the truth was gonna set me free, now I feel the chains of its responsibility. I will not be your puppet, I cannot play it safe...I'll give myself away with a blind and simple faith, I'm just the same as you, I just do the best I can...that's the only answer - for an ******** ***.
There's no such thing as easy answers...you play to win and take your chances....Here's to health, here's to wealth, may you never doubt yourself...just another ******** ***.

Now how did I know that our Canadian brethren would be familiar with a Canadian rock band? Kudos to you Sheep.

Great, so you aren't really famililar with the song. It's from 1981 and a bit before your time. I'm taking back my 'cool' points.

Ok SmartyPants, here is something you cannot google. It is out of print, but a hint is the artist (and his brothers) were members of well known southern rock bands.

You hear the warning voice inside you telling you not to give in. You hear the voice and you decide, this time you're gonna win. Though you know that you'd be better off if you turn and walk away...but you feel her kiss and your will is lost and you know that you're gonna stay. You can't resist the fire...you can't resist the flame...you can't control you desire...so you put your ***** ** *** *****.

Not even close, Sheep. It will take someone that actually knows the music, rather than someone that tries to Google for the answer.

As a Canadian you shoud have been at least remotely famililar with Triumph - one of the biggest rock bands, aside from Rush, to hail from Canada. But, no you had to Google to get a clue.

Does that make me a lesser Canadian? I don't claim to know music, I just know what I like, and it ISN'T triumph. You're idea of big is my idea of flaccid.

See, this is my problem. People have this attitude when it comes to music, that you should know this, or because you're this age/gender/race you should know that. Well **** that. 9 times out of 10 people rip on the music I listen to when they hear it. They do some stupid impression, which all sound the exact same, saying "that **** is ****ed up, how can you like this garbage". But if I try to do that, they say "no way, this is good, it's *actual* music." And because it's played all over the ****ing world, they have some other dipshit agreeing with them.

I used to listen to mainstream garbage until I my friend taught me an important lesson regarding music, you need to give it a chance. I went from pop rock to screamo, metal core, and underground. And now that I'm there, I really don't want to go back. Everything else seems mundane and boring. It's the same CRAP again and again. I've tried to give the music a chance, but it just doesn't feel right.

So if you want to criticize my musical tastes and knowledge go ahead, I've heard 10 times worse from someone else, trust me. But if you're going to make some thread flaunting your musical ego go **** yourself. And maybe next time, say no googling.

Sheep, the point is not what YOU like. The point was simply to find out if anyone else could recognize a song from the lyrics. I don't give a rat's *** if you like Triumph or not.

You were born too late to know anything about music. The music died in the early '90s. You can post anything you like and I'm sure others will Google it to answer the question, just as you did. Now how many really know or have experienced that music? I'm guessing none. I'm not interested in responses from people like you that Google to find lyrics. I was interested to know how many people of my age were familiar with obscure or non-mainstream music.

I go skating on Adult Night and the majority of the crowd is 20-somethings with about a third being 30-60 somethings. The 'kids' go wild for songs that are a rip-off of old songs that were released 20-30 years ago and they think it's all new. I'm more interested in those that grew up in the prime years of music and maybe are familiar with off the path songs by well known artists that didn't necessarily get a lot of commercial air play.

I'm sure you didn't mean it to sound condescending, but it does. :(

The music died in the early '90s.
You are wrong MDS. There has always been both great music and terrible music.

Your statement reminds me (and no doubt every 'young' person) of my own folks saying upon multiple occasions how "music was much better years ago - not like the rubbish you hear these days". Then, now and again something'll be playing and I'll say to them "oh yes, music in those days was sooo much better than today wasn't it?! :D

They'll admit that, fair enough, some music released back then was awful right enough.

Sheep is correct. You've got to give things (not only music) a chance. Unfortunately as we get older it appears to be a human trait to consider things from our own 'hey day' to be the best. We stop making an effort.

Yeah, I can relate. :D

Here's my question...who remembers the game show that gave this thread its name? I can still remember watching it with my parents. I don't think that I knew any of the music because it was before my time, though.

"I can name that tune in one note." Ah, good times.

What annoyed me was Sheep using Google to figure out the answer and then reply with something like 'You're not safe anytime my green light is on'. I supposed that means he can type search terms into google, whoopee.

But you are right. Saying he is too young to know anything about music sounds condescending as does his replies. So what I learned, not that it matters, is nobody is familiar with the lyrics that were posted. Big deal there as well.

Why are you even surprised he did this? If we don't know something (anything) these days what's the first thing we do? Why, we Google or Wikipedia it! ;)

Would you really have every generation the same as every other? :)

Oh my god, stop with your blanket statements and stereotypes. Most of the people I know my age like older songs over new ones. And just because the song is new, doesn't mean it's garbage, that has the be the most counter-productive thinking ever. I think you need to go somewhere other then the roller disco to gain your facts of life. Actually, just get out more. There is no patent or copy right on styles of sound, and some never go out of style. You were just cooped up inside while everyone was adapting and exploring music. There's nothing wrong with using a pre-existing style.

Don't give a rats *** huh? That's why you said I should know them simply because they're a Canadian band... yeah, right. When I go music shopping I browse the Canadian section first, then hit up international/sarcasm.

Well just bringing the song up in conversation will help people discover it, regardless of age. Google is a tool. Without it, I never would have found the song. If I can't find the song, I definitely can't enjoy it, now can I?

You're like one of those people, that finds a band first in a group of friends, and then brags every time they hear it saying "yeah, if it wasn't for me, you wouldn't even know about them!" I don't like people like that. You don't own music, you don't own the right to enjoy music, and you definitely don't own the right to create music. This attitude is not going to get you anywhere.
