Hi,

Forgive my ignorance, but I can't find a maual online for the NAD 2100. I am looking at one that appears to be dead. The red "protection" light is lit. What does this mean?

The protection light means that there's a short circuit somewhere and the machine cut the power before it cooked itself. Is the unit hooked up right now? Try disconnecting all the speaker wires from the binding posts (if they're hooked up). If that fixes the problem, then you must've had a short circuit somewhere back there. If you're using bare wire, make sure to tightly twist the strands and make sure that none of them are flying off the binding post. It's really easy to ignore one strand that ends up shorting out the amp section.

So, Having disconnected everything, and the light is still on, the short is in the amp, itself? Does this mean it is possibly salvagable?

Thanks

Videgon has a used Nad2100 for sale at a fixed price of 180.00. Professional bench work on this piece would probably start at 75.00 for just opening up and looking. If you can't solve the problem yourself I would say it does not make economic sense.
