Can we have a rational discussion about guns and why the typical arguments for gun control and its implementation won't work?

When you go after machine guns, you're not looking at the real problem.
The real problem is that there are way too few guns in in USA so that honest and pure Americans can't protect themselves! Criminals don't respect laws, as you say, so any attempt at gun controls put Americans lives at risk from mass murder! Every child should have a loaded gun given to them at birth, but even better would a hand grenade! So when someone looks funny at you, or a teacher giving bad grades, you know what to do: Blow the f*ckers brains out! The 8 year old must be a criminal, and of course, any teacher giving bad grades!

That was sarcasm, btw.

This thread is one of the dumbest I've seen, and it started with the first post and the thread title. Completely moronic and cheered on by people that have never served, as well as immune to any science.

I'd think one of the gun people here would say, I believe in sensible gun rights, like rifles, shotguns, handguns, and bows. However, new machine guns----wow, that's nuts! Nobody says that, so I'd have to assume you'd like MGs if the feds ever removed the ban.

What happened that sent you to machine gun land? And no, I'm not trying to justify them. Whatever noise in your head is making you believe that, it's not coming from me.

People who do own real machine guns make sure to secure them because if they don't, they stand to lose them. These aren't the wingnuts who want to play Rambo, it's more likely that they actually have used them in military service and they often live in places where someone has enough land that allows their use. When was the last time you heard of a real machine gun being used, rather than illegally-modified guns or a bump-stock?

Millions of guns are in the hands of people who are prohibited but that's not being addressed. Personally, I think Congress is too ignorant of the facts and anything they say about guns is just to make people think they're doing something. What they need to do is go to cities where gunfire is common, so they can be shown how wrong they are. Not far from my house, New Year's Eve, once again, sounded like a war zone but sirprisingly, it didn't last long and no, it wasn't all from fireworks. Milwaukee PD call logs contain reports of 60 shots fired in 17 minutes.

When you go after machine guns, you're not looking at the real problem.

Liked the part about people make sure to secure their MGs. With that kind of thinking you can justify the manufacture of "new" MGs because you already know owners of said are "responsible." Move ahead a number of years when a kid gets ahold of dad's MG and there's bloodbath in the school cafeteria. But as you said if I look at MGs I'm not looking at the real problem.

Think my depression level just rose. This is quite sad and mentally ill.....

Getting new machineguns legal again is like the Holy Grail of restoring rights.

The public civilians owning military grade weapons equipment was always the entire point of the 2nd Amendment.

Can anyone else smell an MG42 in their future?

Making machine guns easy to buy and sell for anyone is the pinnacle of dismantling the NFA and FOPA.

People forget you could buy machine guns in the local hardware store during a time in this country…. Until the govt infringed unconstitutionally.

Hopefully this goes nation wide!!!!
