Exceptionally clean setup Cory, very nice. Do you find the ref 1's to be a bit bright? Others have commented on this and I would love to hear your opinion
Thanks Nick. I'm an art director by profession, so i probably pay more attention to aesthetics than I should when it comes to A/V...but hey, we all have our thing. As for them being bright, I wouldn't say so. Well...let me rephrase. The X-LS's sounded just a tad, every so slightly, laid back. So, with the ref 1's, the may have seemed bright, but I think that was the net effect. To be honest, I'm finding that I like a speaker that sounds a little more bright, so these work well for me. To me, they just sound more "airy." There seems to be a wider soundstage and a more open presentation. That may come across as bright to some. They're not sibilant in any way. I'm really enjoying them.
Dang Cory, you go through speakers like my wife goes through purses.
I still think those PR X-ls are nicest looking speakers you've had.
Were you able to A/B the ref1 to the X-ls?
Hah! I know, right. To be honest, and this may sound like the worst way to go monetarily, but that is part of the fun of the hobby for me. I just love trying new gear. Now, that probably costs me money in the end, but it's the thrill of getting something new and hearing something different that interests me.
And I agree...from a look standpoint, those piano rosewoods are hard to beat. Bravo to AV123 for those. And no, unfortunately I wasn't able to A/B them. It was a trade + cash so I had to ship them out while the Ref 1's were on their way to me. I think that would be a great a/b though...to compare their least expensive bookshelf offering with their most expensive.
