Well, after a month of crappy weather, they 'broke ground' on my new house last week. So far only the blocks have been set and footers poured. Foundation should be complete by the end of the week.

This is largely a DIY house; my father-in-law is a contractor and is the contractor for this build. I've helped him in the past lay tile, hardwood, etc, etc, etc, etc, etc. This time, I'll finally be doing it for my own house. We expect to be finished in May. We are planning to sell it in about 2 years; we will probably build a couple more times so that our 3rd/4th house will be paid in full. That's the beauty of having a badass father in law.

A few specs are:
1.033 Acres
3600sqft
500sqft bonus room for my HT setup
22x20 garage
10x10 workshop attached to garage

The rest are just details as I only care about the stinking garage. I've not had a garage in 2 years and I CAN'T WAIT to finally have one!

We've already managed to stay $8k under our budget for the build. This weekend alone we saved $2800 on brick and about $500 on tile thanks to a local clearance sale. We buy store demos from Lowe's and ordered our lighting online. Hopefully the woman will let me put that money toward the media room.

A couple pics:
The front view

The side, looking at the garage. You can see where my little workshop will be on the right.

I've already started mapping out the HT room (think 4 IB 15's manifolded into the room). I'll eventually start posting build pics in a thread in the member's gallery. I just wanted to share my excitement a few pics with you guys. :)

Thanks fellas.

The crown molding... I'm not touching it, lol.

The overall rundown of my own work will be:
Flooring
Tile
Carpet
Painting garage/upstairs
Running electrical; electrician will terminate everything
Insulation
Fence
Sprinkler System
...and a few other things I can't think of right now

Some things I won't touch and molding is one of them. Downstairs paint is another due to the molding, lol.

I'm smart enough to know what I suck at and when I need to pay someone. lol

It's beautiful and from here it looks huge. :)
Wise move on the molding.
You will be seeing it a lot and for a very long time.

You seem excited, but at the same time thinking about selling it in 2 years? So, by the time you stop tinkering with the media room, you'll sell it :D
2 years is not enough for the house to "burn in" ;)

Anyway, keep us posted on the construction. The place looks really peaceful. You should not have any problems with neighbors complaining about noise.

haha, thanks! ;)

We were hoping to be done by May, but June is looking like the finishing date.

Hopefully it won't rain here tomorrow. If so, Framing could start as early as Thursday. :D

I've been slowly building up gear for the HT. Monoprice had banana connectors on sale last week for $.93/pair. I ordered 32. :D
Should make for some nice in wall termination points.

I'm watching out for HDMI cable, wall termination blocks, and speaker wire.

Already know everything that's going in there gear-wise:
denon avr-3808ci
Custom Swan towers (L/R/C)
Aperion bookshelves (surrounds)
Epson 1080 projector
*some screen*

Should be nice, low(er) budget setup.

The beauty will be the 4 IB15's manifold'ed through the wall. :D

Awesome Erin!!!! It sounds like you have one heck of a set-up coming your way. The Denon 3808 CI is one sweet piece of gear. I am already jealous......:eek:. Be sure to keep us posted on the entire process. Many here can learn from it. Have a blessed evening.

I'll definately post process pics up.

I'm not going through great means to isolate the room, though. I'm just doing what I can to get things wired up and put in place the best way I can.

Thanks!

GO CATS!

Congrats on the new house, enjoy the project even though it may seem to be a big pain at times.
We built our house also, it seems like just the other day and it has been 8 years ago already. But buy doing alot of the work yourself you will be saving alot of money so you can have alot more to put into your sound system:D

Small update:

Some good news came recently when I realized that my 'front' of the HT room is going to be pushed about 6-8' away from the front of the house. That means that I can put the manifold up front rather than at the side. I'd still have about 23x23' to work with, too. The final plan will be decided once the floor goes in. I may try to make a false wall so the room won't be perfectly square. We're hanging a screen so the speakers will be behind that. I'm going with a standing center, too. So, up front everything will match.

Erin, glad to see things coming along. The same can be said for the Cats!!!! Selection Sunday is about (4)weeks away!!!! Really looking forward to it as Meeks scored 45 points yesterday. He is absolutely amazing. Keep up the good work Erin as it will be done before you know it. Have a blessed evening.
