My first real theater

Thanks for the compliment all. Now you can see why my wife (who hand painted all that) is resistant to putting up acoustical treatments. That is going to be quite the battle. Especially considering how good the new Pio sounds. ;)

Adwilk, you have a standing invitation (and my cell if I remember right).
Nah with your charm you can sweet talk her into it. I wouldn't get all up in arms about sound treatments. Especially at this point. If it sounds good then you don't need em. Though a few tri traps might fit in well.

Hello mperfect.

I don't know if you remember me or not, "Mr. Sensitive!" Technology in the year 2139?!:p

Anyway, I just wanted to commend you on the true home theater/basement you've put together. Nicely done is an understatement.
I know you have made changes in the system since you originally posted photos, such as projector and AVR upgrade. Is it possible for you to submit updated listing of your equipment and a full frontal photo of the rack? I have a fetish for system configurations!;)

I'm also curious about your switch from the Marantz SR8001 to the Pioneer Elite SC-07. The Marantz is a potent AVR. In what areas have you seen an improvement with the Pioneer?!
My last question is regarding the Pioneer BDP-51FD Bluray player. Since the 1.32 firmware has been introduced to activate the DTS-HD/MA decoding, I've been really interested in this player. Have you been satisfied with it's performance? Better yet, have you had any issues with playback of certain bluray movies?

Regards.

Dang, I must be slow to respond! I know this will seem like marketing hype, but the Pio seems a lot more dynamic to me. The surround stage seems wider and deeper, and the audio portion of the experience is a lot more engaging. My screen is pretty big, so the audio really has to step it up to keep on a similar performance level as the video set the bar high.

As far as the Pio 51, it's been pretty good. Every now and then I'll get a cracked netflix rental, and ironically, it's always the cleanest looking discs I receive. I think I've only had 3-4 problems discs out of 20+ rentals I've put through there. No problems with discs that I've owned, so I'm pretty happy with the player. Sometimes the wait is noticeable while a movie is loading, but that's quickly forgotten once the movie starts.

We watched the last hour or so of Harry Potter 2 and that was a great experience. I do really enjoy my theater, although the wife was asking when I was going to get the bare mineral wool panels out of the room. :p

Great looking theater MP ... well done sir :)
Thanks...I'm almost done tweaking it too. I'd like to get some wider fabric so I can tilt the screen a bit more, as I have some slight moire problems. Chris Seymour is great to work with in this regard, so I just have to find the gumption and some extra change. :p

Thanks again for the compliment. It's been lots of fun.

Wow, Chris. That's awesome! I clearly had forgotten how nice of a home theater that you all have. Very, very nicely done. Thanks for the new pictures.

Looking great Chris.

Question are you running a 2.35:1 screen? I know our Mitsu projectors can do some funky quasi anamorphic setup but I have not messed with it.

Yes I am. I think the screen is about a 2.37:1 screen. I actually just started dinking with some sort of one-touch setup I found out about in the Mits owner's thread at AVS. Has to do with setting the shutters and being able to recall those settings when you hit the aspect button. I've been watching a 16:9 movie (Fargo) so I haven't tried to the one-touch to anamorphic yet.
