Erin,

You edited your questions! :D

3) I used angled boards; I used scrap base trim (you know the kind of trim that goes around the bottom of your walls to dress it up between the sheet rock and flooring).

lol.... and I didn't have time to edit again!

Finally, what/how did you get the cut? Did you order the screen at the 15* angle cut, or did you do this yourself? The website is a bit confusing. I saw where you used 110” XD screen, but I don’t see that on this page:

I’m sure this has any easy answer… but the pdf you linked is a bit confusing.

Thanks again.

Hey Erin,

Costs = cheap. I just followed the directions on Chris Seymour's website (link) and I bet it cost me less than $400.
Cool link. I'm glad that they recommend 36-40 deg viewing angle, but to not go over 50. I'm using 42 right now, how about you mperfct?

Chris isn't selling the XD material off of his site yet. I think he's trying to sell out of the old CenterStage material first. When I bought my first screen, they offered a 15* cut. Now they are cutting the tilt for the maximum allowable tilt, depending on the screen dimensions. As you can see in my Picasa gallery, I'd guess my tilt is probably around 10*. I didn't really have a problem with moire, as my problem was due to me sitting too close and my hawk-eyes picking up on the pattern of the screen. I've been meaning to measure my eye-to-screen distance, but I'm sure it's pretty small.

I think if you have a decent screen-to-eye distance, that you should definitely take advantage of the close out pricing on the older material. At least get quotes for both. Chris is EXCELLENT to work with.

I think my viewing angle is about 270*. :p Seriously, it's pretty large. I'll have to measure it tonight.

Did you have this space added to your house or was it already there?
It was in the unfinished basement. I think one of our biggest regrets in building this house was not spending the $4300 and getting 9' ceilings in the basement. That is a huge regret, but not quite large enough for us to go build another house because of it. Hopefully I can help push one other person over the edge to do it. I don't think anyone has ever regretted getting 9' ceilings. ;)

edit: here is what the basement looked like before hand. You can jump up to the album level and look through the entire build process if you're so inclined.

Thanks man. I am looking at all the plans I can find. I think I have decided to keep the house I am in and having the roof torn off and building up. I want to do a nice HT that can become a second living room once it is time to sell that place.

I'm at 45.7* for 16x9 material, and 57.8* for anamorphic material. Go big or go home, I suppose. :p

Wow, are you sure those #s are right? That probably is closer than a 1:1 width/distance ratio? Thanks... yeah, I'm in your camp though, go big or go home. :p

That is a really nice setup and basement, man. Looks really really great.. I'll have to make it a point to be up your way when I can check it out. Those walls look incredible in a photo and I bet they are better in person.

Thanks for the compliment all. Now you can see why my wife (who hand painted all that) is resistant to putting up acoustical treatments. That is going to be quite the battle. Especially considering how good the new Pio sounds. ;)

Adwilk, you have a standing invitation (and my cell if I remember right).
